So three things.

1) No one can say for sure when "the end" will be. I don't think it will be 2012.

2) There was a thread on this already. (It went on for a while, kinda died)

I agree with Phoenix. This is almost as bad as the 2000 end-of-the-world epidemic-like deal. I bet politicians and world-rulers find ways to use this myth to their advantage, via manipulation and what not.

But when 2012/2013 comes around and nothing happens, well... a new date will be chosen at random within the next 30 or so years for us to react to. People better learn after this that nothing will end. >_>

At the very least, if the world doesn't end, maybe, MAYBE our way of life will change. But it will probably be in some small way that will hardly affect more than 10% of the population.

I'm not too sure I know of any senator (in the USA) that would risk using "End of World on 2012" as a platform. There's really no way to make this a beneficial stance. They're just begging to lose the next election. They might win, possibly, (very low chance) some evangelicals, at the cost of every other demographic [because they wouldn't vote for a batshit crazy person as their representative] and the respect of colleagues.
