Consequences of shooting a deer with a rifle during bow season.

Default Consequences of shooting a deer with a rifle during bow season.
To be blunt, there are cops outside my house right now.

My step-father was reported for shooting a deer with a rifle.
I don't know much about hunting(I actually don't really know anything) but I guess it's bow season.

I was wondering what kind of punishment he might get for this.
I tried to google it, but for some reason I can't find anything.

It'd probably be whatever the "discharging/firing a weapon" penalties are. Plus whatever goofy hunting rules apply for doing anything off-season.

He could get charged with a number of things. My brother-in-law went to jail for shooting a deer that was on a tiny piece of private land, and the owner tried to sue him.

It all depends which laws he has broken and if he had an prior offenses. If this is his first time and he did it on his own property, chances are it'll only be a fine.
