Summary: Kairi can't look anywhere but at the forms of her two best friends, standing in their Secret Place, sharing yet another thing they would not with her. Kairi angst about unfulfilled SoKai, SoRiku.

Not really rated, but contains a kiss.

Kairi's POV

It's not so rare to have you turn your back to me. Always running ahead, always with your eyes set forward, never waving; You never once seemed capable of slowing down to fit my pace. Never slowing, never stopping, forever more out of my reach.
How I longed for the times you'd trip and laugh at your own silly, goofy self!
I managed to catch up to you then...
And yet you just pushed yourself up, dusted your clothes and once again turned away with a grin.

I'm not going to ask you why you smile at me like that.
I just want to know why you even bother calling my name.

Right now, do you even remember it? Standing there - with him - in our secret place...
No, in your Secret Place.
It isn't mine; it never was. You just brought me there on a whim without understanding the true meaning behind the word 'secret'...
And he really didn't like it.
Your own Secret Place, he said. Yours, and his, and no one else's.
Not even mine... least of all mine.

No Princess belongs with a pair of beach brats, he said and dragged you away, and you hardly even looked back even though I repeatedly cried out your name.

You came willingly this time, though, so trusting as he went as far as have you close your eyes. You trust him completely; always have, always will. That's something to truly adore about you, you know...
He brings you to a stop and I can't help but notice where you are - in the middle of the cave, with your back turned to me... the me you drew so long ago...

I can feel his eyes burn into me as he kisses you. An utter feeling of possessiveness towards you and a touch of hate towards me are all I can see in his aquamarine eyes you praise and love so much. It's not fair, I scream inwardly as you pull closer to him and he holds you even closer still now that I began to bore him.

It's just not fair!

I ran after you... I reached for you...
Constantly watched your back...
I won't ask you to look over at the me in front of you, carved on the wall by your own two hands.
I just want to know why when he's standing between us...
You'd rather close your eyes than even look straight ahead.

It's just so horribly unfair...

I don't think it really matters, the relationships didn't change all that much along the way between the three. :3

That was half flashbecky :3 seeing how she was adopted into the Mayor's house, I always figured that was a major part in why she thinks she's so high and mighty. Thus the jealous child Riku ranted her down X3

Yeah, that would explain the flying pigs outside my window.

Most fanfics would, otherwise they wouldn't be able to write her without bringing it down to plain, straight-forward bashing. I know this from experience and I think this fic is an example of giving her a slight amount of depth - one I hardly saw in the game.
On one of my rps, however, we went the distance and we bash her, simply because we can't see her acting any other way (thus we let Riku think about her whenever he needs a turn off, she buys porn because the actors look like her and Sora, etc).

The best way to go about with Kairi then is either not to write her at all, or either make her a true saint - thus being OOC since she couldn't care less about Riku in the games and is far too obsessive and hardly caring enough towards Sora, or - making her truly be a bitch, but one that's supposed to be a bitch, namely - she's gonna do anything she can do to get Sora, she hates Riku because she's supposed to hate him and not because somewhere along the way that friendship was just let go, and her being a PoH simply means she lacks the Darkness necessary to make her human instead of making her a saint.
Either way you go about it though means breaking the Kairi from the games, seeing how either way - you're actually giving her character.
I find it fun then to write would-be SoKai fics that turn out to be SoNami - it has Kairi seemingly involved with Sora only the truth of the matter is she herself doesn't matter while Sora's with her out of pity and since that's the closest he'll ever get to being with Namine.
The saddest part? Victimizing her like that isn't something I came up with; the games and their plots did.
