So a little while ago I posted a challenge thread about making a story out of a song, using the lyrics as dialogue. Well I decided to use a similar idea, but actually, it is completely different. Instead of using the dialogue, you use the album title as the story title, and then you have to have as many chapters as there are tracks, and the chapter titles have to be the track names.
So here goes:
The Demon Hunter Trilogy~ Part 1: The World is a Thorn
Chapter 1: Descending Upon Us
October 31, 1982
Halloween. A time when children run around in poorly fashioned costumes to collect obscene amounts of candy, microwave popcorn, and soda pop. For the children this is a fun carefree event! For demons, yes, demons, it is the perfect opportunity to worm their ways into the unsuspecting teenagers playing, seemingly, innocent games. Unfortunately they know not the power they are unleashing upon themselves, if they forgo their caution and their common sense.
Sara Martin was a fourteen year old who desired love. Her parents were always hard at work, and she was left to always watch her little brother Franklin. He was only ten, and was a complete burden on her social life. So whenever she was given the opportunity she would ditch her brother, leaving him to play with his army men and train sets. She had to keep up her image, even if it meant doing things her parents would kill her over.
Tonight was the night that she would go to the Hideaway with her friends, and never come back. Tonight she would finally break down the final walls of her soul.
Sara had missed her chance to catch a ride with her friends to the Hideaway. Her parents had made her change out of her some-what questionable schoolgirl costume, but a senior was driving all of her friends over there, and by God he was her dream man! He knew how to treat a lady! Well he ought to, she thought; he had dated the entire junior class. So Sara Martin walked along the beaten path to the old barn, which had become her secret meeting place, for her and her friends. It was only a few blocks away from her mid sized home. Five minutes later she made it to the Hideaway, and heard squeals of joy coming from inside.
Sara slid the over sized door open enough for her to squeeze in and closed it, with a light thud. Some of her friends were huddled around an oil lamp playing with some white board. She didn’t care too much though, she was looking for that hunk of a senior… then she saw his car, parked towards the back of the rather large barn. She waved to her friends and the motioned for her to join them. So she walked over and plopped down to her friend Jen.
“Where is he?” Sara whispered. She felt it was necessary to whisper, she didn’t want kids trick-or-treating at the house just down the road to hear them if they passed the Hideaway.
“James? Oh he’s uh, spending some time with Becky…”
“What?!” Sara tried to keep her voice down.
“Yeah… James asked where you were, but he decided he could have fun with Becky too.”
Sara felt a wave of jealousy, no, animosity, take over her senses. She felt this strange prick at the back of her mind. The shadows deepened and she stood, dusted off her jeans, and stormed over to James’ car. She stopped short of the car when she heard moaning. James moaning. She became overcome with such ferocious anger that she kicked his door. WUMPH! Suddenly she regretted it because James sat up, wiped his mouth on his jacket sleeve and gave her this… look. Sara backed off instantly, but before she turned back she swear she couldn’t see his eyes. They were black.
Thinking what she just saw a light trick, she decided to leave them be. Sara spent the evening gossiping with her friends. Eventually Sara was coaxed into playing with this ‘wee gee’ board. At first nothing would happen. But then they would hear voices, and things would move. It was a wonderful fright! The girls were having a blast, but something kept nagging at Sara. That prick at the back of her mind was growing stronger. It was beginning to engulf her thoughts. They were becoming dark, and she honestly didn’t care. She didn’t care much about herself. She didn’t mind loosing her virginity at 14 years old, she didn’t mind drinking with her friends, and she didn’t mind getting high. Whatever she could do to feel loved and get attention, she would do, without thought.
So when James finally rejoined the group, without Becky, Sara found her chance to cozy up to him. Sara had already apologized for being late, and James didn’t mind, he was just happy to see her smile. At that point Sara was smitten, but at the same moment, that prick had become a full hand, gripping her consciousness. The shadows became so black that they seemed to engulf even the light. The ‘wee gee’ board lifted from the ground and the girls were screeching, laughing, or awed at the sight. It moved towards Sara, and she picked up the marker laying an arms length away, and she wrote a word. She had lost complete control over herself. That word? It surged through her body like a disease. Ba’al.
The archdemon, who had impersonated a god, successfully, consumed her. She didn’t fight it, because it told her it loved her. And soon she felt two other voices. They were called Snake and Blaz. Sara’s eyes blackened, and the girls became curious.
“Oh god, girls, I think I’m going to be sick! He stood and jogged a few feet and vomited. Sara began to laugh. Her voice sounded deeper, and darker.
“Poor boy. Didn’t know that there were side effects of being possessed, and then let go.” James turned suddenly terrified.
“Girls… you guys need to leave. Sara and I need to have a chat.” When the girls didn’t listen to him he yelled: “LEAVE! Get out of here you brats!” The girls huffed, packed up their things and left, but they only walked a few feet and decided to sneak around back, to see what they were going to do. They were indeed foolish, but they didn’t know what this all was.
They snuck in through the back door, and took cover behind James’ car.
“Sara, are you feeling okay?”
“Yes of course James, I am just peachy. By the way, how did Becky taste?”
James glared at Sara, who was not Sara anymore.
“I told you that there wasn’t to be ANY killing. I would welcome you as my god, and I would do all that you asked! So why?!”
“I grew bored you fool! A demon is NEVER satisfied. You should know that by now.” Ba’al/Sara’s laugh echoed off the walls, and ended in a low rumble.
“I did know that… and you know why you started to loose your hold on me don’t you? I’ve been hearing of this guy. He died on a cross. His name is Je-ack!” Ba’al/Sara surged forward in a blink of an eye and covered his mouth.
“Yes, but you don’t believe it do you?” She released his mouth.
“Not… entirely, no.”
“ But you believe in demon’s because you can see them?”
“Of course.”
“Then you are an utter fool. God exists. His son”- Ba’al/Sara spat upon the ground, “exists, angels and demons exist, but you can only see demons because I let you only see demons!”
James fell to his knees then. He was so overwhelmed to know that he had been fighting such truth all along. He began to weep, and then a scream penetrated the air. They hadn’t left! James shot up and bolted towards the car, but a black tentacle slapped is ankle and he face planted. The girls had discovered Becky’s limp and gored body in the backseat of James’ car. Stricken with sheer panic the bolted towards the front door. The girls were tripped one by one. Their screams shrieked across the neighborhood, and black tentacles protruding from Ba’al/Sara’s back mauled them. Ten minutes later their screams were either silent, or slight whimpers of unearthly pain as Blaz and Snake consumed their souls. The demons forced themselves upon the girls, and made them accept them, because they promised to let the girls live. Lies of course.
Ba’al/Sara strutted over to James, who lied upon the ground shaking. Tears rolling down his face. Ba’al/Sara, straddled him and leaned in seductively. This time Sara seemed to be talking.
“He loves me James. I could show you that love,” She giggled and bit his lip playfully. James head butted her as hard as he could. She recoiled, spat upon him and ran out of the barn. James let his head slam back on the wooden planks. His forehead was bleeding a little. He rolled over, slowly, and tried to stand. His ankle was twisted but he managed to limp over to the mangled remains of the girls. All of them dead, except one, she was huddled in the corner, and her leg seemed broken. She picked up a can and threw it at him.
“You… you killed Becky! Why?!” Tears poured down her face.
“No. Jen listen to me. You have to listen okay? You have to tell the cops that a man kidnapped Sara, and that he killed your friends. I need you to tell them that it was just you guys. I have to find Sara. I have to or else it will kill her, and I can’t have the police looking for me. Okay?”
Jen just looked at him. She clutched the cross around her neck and nodded. She knew that something had happened here, something that the Bible had made known to her. James helped Jen over to the front of the barn, pushed the door open and told her to yell for help, after he drove away. Again she nodded, and as James limped back to his car, she said: “Find her. Promise me?” James nodded, jumped into his car and started it. He looked back, saw Becky’s body and gagged. He pulled her out of his back seat and laid her on the floor. “I’m so, so sorry…” He maneuvered around the bodies and drove off into the night. He knew where to go. And if he didn’t he could see the demons roaming the earth and just ask them.
This is the first song on the album:
