Nah, nat even, homie. The secret is calling in a favor from Tink and whacking away while you get that sweet, sweet regen.

At least, that's how my grandma made homemade Dragon Witch Pie.

KH II was basically "baby's first gimmick fights": they discovered gauges, timed fights and solo fights and they used them with the same frequency as an newbie editor that has just found a new stock of sound clips.
Just look at all the fights that ends after a certain number of hits in the first half: the Dusk with Roxas, the Nobodies with Sora, the Shadows landing at Beast's Castle, Hades in his chamber, the first fight with Pete, the first fight with the Pirates, the Heartless landing in Agrabah...

Nitpick: where does Jiminy go when Sora goes into merman/lion mode.

Now I want to see a Jiminy Pride Lands & Atlantica form.

Also, anyone annoyed with how they introduced summons in II? I mean, in one you at least had a character dedicated to helping out summons and a story reason for them, and in two you're just kind of thrown a dumb chicken and the game does little to no explaining as to what they do and why you should ever use them. I'm not even saying they're useless, just that they're not explained well at all!

KH genie wasn't explained too well either, for the record.

Having Fairy Godmother do that explaining fleshed out that aspect a bit more, rather than Merlin alone toss all that at you. It's just the game saying "Yeah, yeah, you know the drill, here's some magic, here's a summon, now be off with ya!".

I disagree about Genie as Agrabah's last scene was about him leaving to go find Jasmine with Sora. It would have helped if they had a scene where Genie splits up with Sora but tells him how to reach him in case he needs help. So you have an explanation for why he doesn't always pop up.

For 2 it might have been better if they gave Fairy godmother's role to somebody else. Merlin, Aerith, Queen Minnie/Daisy, Aurora's fairy godmothers it doesn't really matter.

It IS odd Aurora's three fairies never show up again after the costume change. It would have only made sense for them to hang in, say, Radiant Garden.

Ah, should have clarified. Story-wise it's fine. Gameplay-wise, I meant. For some reason I didn't get as a kid that he would only attack if you locked onto an enemy, so I would try him out in Merlin's magic room only to get... well, nothing, since who ever locked onto the furniture in that room anyways?!

While replaying through KH1, I found myself lamenting the semi-scattered nature of the world organization among the early worlds - Namely, Traverse Town and Deep Jungle. I think this is only an issue because I know what the desired end-point for each of the worlds is, so I end up making a beeline for that spot while the game actually has an arbitrary order it would like for me to visit things in.

For instance, your second trip to Traverse Town. I get back and know I have to go to Cid, but Sora doesn't. After wandering around for a minute because I forgot I got that Red Trinity access to the Secret Waterway, I finally find Leon and Aerith after having already opened up the way to Merlin's House. Leon gives me Simba's summon gem, then tells me to swing by Cid's. On the way out, I swing by the Fairy Godmother, but she refuses to talk to me b/c the Summon Gem prompt doesn't kick off until after Cid has wrapped up with your ship.

Ultimately, a very small nit to pick, but still.

I see what you mean: having an arbitrary play order only to have in-order cutscenes was always a weird thing with the series.

    New Nitpick:

Riku switched from dress shoes to sneakers somehow in his Ansem the Wise's purging of Ansem SoD from his body. Like I can totally buy that he had those clothes on under the black coat, but he CLEARLY had different shoes.

For shame, Square Enix, FOR SHAME. Now you're going to have to make a KH2.367 to explain to me how the motherdiddly he lost his dress shoes 0.2-style.

I mean, I don't think it's necessarily arbitrary play rather than storytelling. Of course you would know where to go the next time you play, but the first time I'd doubt anyone discerned on their own that Cid was the guy.
His job with Gummis was never exposed up to that point, in the dialogue telling you to return to Traverse Town Goofy says "Leon will probably know what this Gummi is" and Cid was never associated with Leon's gang.

It's like when you replay a game like Ace Attorney and you already know the culprit, but you can't fault the game and characters for acting like they don't know. Unless the game it's Undertale, it's unlikely it will take into account you having knowledge of future events.

Now, for the matter of KH's storytelling being making the player go from one point to the other, witness cutscene and go back, that's the style of the series.
Personally I found it much more grating in KH II.

I want Lea to pull off a Riku and doing the exact same in KH III at some point. Turns out he actually had a Victorian-style dress under the coat, ascot and everything.

But more than that now I want to imagine Ansem SoD with KH II Riku's clothes.
    Imagine that glorious belly button.

Nitpick: Sora and co. help out Ping out of having borrowed Mushu from her family.
Except, Mushu was a summoning stone, meaning his world was destroyed, meaning there was no family or job to borrow him from. If anything, Mushu should be in debt with them for giving him at least some moments of freedom.
But hey, we needed Sora to do the movie, didn't we?

Sora would have done it anyway even if he didn’t feel he owed anyone. Because...he’s Sora!

I love nitpicking this series so much!

Also, why does Lea with a victorian-style dress actually sound like good character design?

My nitpick: It is very easy for me to put down any other game (even some of my all-time favorites) and take a break without falling into addiction.

    Except KH1 and 2.
I've spent entire days playing either of those and losing track of time.

This series has ruined/improved my life.

    I agree with you completely.

I set a New Years Resolution for myself at the start of the year where I want to beat more games than I buy. Start chipping away at that backlog, y'know?

And while FURI keeps sitting there on my PS4 dashboard after impulsively buying it at the start of the year, I still find myself gravitating back to the old comforts, especially the closer we get to release day.

At least I have my 3DS for during the downtime at work so I can chip away at Radiant Historia (b/c I'm not going back to any of the DS family spin-offs when I have the HD ReMIXes).
