hi, this is one of the most fucking insane things i've ever seen someone say with their full chest on this forum.
You're welcome, late to the party but you know what? it had to be said. If he's the one getting in the way of progress and merch, then when he goes what happens then?

Not necessarily, it's Disney, they'll keep the franchise going as long as it makes money

I'm sure if Square Enix cut ties with Kingdom Hearts & Disney, Disney will continue the series using another developer but at the cost at anything Final Fantasy related in KH

I don't think that's the same work in any real sense, though. Just a company executing their legal right to put a name that they "own" onto things.

I know that's good enough for most people, but like, literally that's all it is.

If FF continued on without Hironobu Sakaguchi, KH can & will move on from Nomura.

Hopefully it doesn't happen anytime soon but I'd personally stop playing the series if Nomura wasn't involved anymore because any reason

Now back on topic, I am wondering if Nomura will have any involvement in this film and if FF characters will show up at all. If it's retelling KH1, would it not have Leon & Co.?

But imagine Live Action FF7 and 8 characters lol, they'd probably use a western cast so it's going to look so goofy.

I don't consider that sort of thing progress. More like, capitalism and consumer culture eventually destroying everything I hold dear.

So. Um. Back to talking about the movie.

I guess it would be possible to strip down and summarize KH1 to the point that there are only a few Disney worlds: Wonderland, Agrabah, Neverland, and arguably Monstro (depending on how much of Riku's arc is preserved.) This list is a bit Golden/Silver Age-heavy, so I could see Wonderland being swapped out for a newer princess world. Monstro might also be substituted for something else because "Fantastic Voyage" type plots work better as game levels than movie subplots.

The rumor specifically said that that this movie is going to be a live action/CGI hybrid, so I've seen people speculate that the division is going to be world-based, with the KH worlds being live action and the Disney worlds being CGI animation. That could be interesting, but it would be better if they fully committed to the hybrid idea. Yes, have the 3D animated movies be represented by CGI, but use 2D animation for the traditionally animated movies, and use stop motion if Halloweentown makes it in. But this would take a lot more effort than just having everything in one medium, so I don't know if they'd actually do it.

I don't know how they'd do Donald and Goofy in live action. That sounds kind of, well, goofy.

Most of the Disney worlds would likely have to limited to glorified cameos while maybe the main characters of each come along with Sora on his quest.

Something that always comes to my mind when it comes to adapting video games to other media is that the general level-to-level pacing of your typical game better suits the episodic structure of TV better than it would to film. Like an example that often comes to my mind was that 1st Tomb Raider, which Lara Croft hunting for McGuffin triangle artifact thingie that's been split into 2 halves in 2 different parts of the world. Like you know darn if the film's plot was an actual game said artifact would instead be split between 5-8 pieces & the player would have to go to that many dungeons ancient temple ruins. But they had to cut that number down to fit the run time.

Or how about FF Spirits Within (my apologies for reminding everyone of that film's existence). Which had 8 Gaia Spirits plot coupons with 5 of them already been found before the film started.

More recently we got the Mario movie, where Mario's journey across the lands that would be 99% of any given game is done in a single montage.

Is it a crime to wish for more merchandise? is it so bad for more love to be shown to the series that brought us all here? KH is in a weird position for a Disney owned property, it's highly praised yet receives very little spotlight compared to other ventures. I tasked two of my coworkers who were going to Disney World to do one thing for me, find evidence of official KH merch in the park. Only one of the two succeeded and found a phone case at Epcot. They went to all the parks and THAT was the only thing any of them could find. That is sad.

Maybe you do have a point in that if it were to grow to the level of commercialism that say, Frozen did it would be bad. But it would likely make it more prominent in the public zeitgeist and might allow it to get the same treatment that Star Wars has in Disney parks, like Galaxy's edge.

At the expense of the life of the creator? Um... YES??????

But that is the perfect metaphor for the very concept of a "franchise" or "brand" and how that only makes sense in an ultra-capitalistic mindset, I suppose.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you were just being bombastic, but flippantly daydreaming about the death of the sole creator of the thing you claim to love so that you can... get more merch is fucking crazy, dude. You aren't making any coherent point here. Your friends couldn't find KH shit at Disney World, so it'd be sweet if Nomura could die so that they'd put more KH shit at Disney World?

Is there a fuckin gas leak in here or something

I mean...you did basically frame all this with the hypothetical that it could all happen when Nomura's fucking dead and "not getting in the way of progress/cool shit"

I'll be frank, I don't really want KH in the public zeitgeist. I've seen Star Wars turn from a simple hero's journey story into Palpatine somehow returning, filled with witty one liners and explosions, with absolutely no soul and nothing to say.

I prefer my series popular enough to continue and improve, but not popular enough to have the execs be aware of their existence. My favourite games (Star Ocean 3, Final Fantasy Tactics, Shadow Hearts Covenant, Kingdom Hearts 2) were good and popular, but God forbid they get popular enough to get a theme park.

Perhaps I did frame it in a bad way, I should clarify that I don't want Nomura dead, but merely stating the fact that his overall reluctance to let Disney be Disney is a bit bad for the series. The world at large is aware of Disney and their innumerable properties, and you'd be hard pressed going anywhere without seeing something Disney related in a store. It's just confusing to me how one man is able to reign in Disney, a marketing titan in numerous circles with the fact that he has the final say in what happens with the series and merchandising.

God forbid a creator have any influence over how a mega-corporation uses their ideas.

Last thing I want is Disney have more chances to profit off of KH stuff

We have enough merch anyway.
