I would believe that they are able to reproduce, comsidering the prefect replicas are said to be indistinguishable from non-replicas. Alternatively the characters could create replica kids using both of their data or simply adopt. Though they are all still a decade too young to worry about that.

I heard that in the Japanese version it's more a sensing then smelling. Which makes sense seeing it was kind of treated like Aura/Chakra/Energy Sensing in other series.
