    Smash is its own beast. But games like Dissidia and Dragonball Xenoverse and 99% of all anime fighters by Bandai Namco are arena fighters. I think that's the most widely accepted term. Whether it's 2D like Street Fighter or 3D like Tekken or Dead or Alive, those games are usually referred to as traditional vs or competitive fighters.

    Come to think of it, isn't all the text in the XVverse in English? So this would mean that's what all the characters are canonically speaking in, right?

    That's not how FF logic works :P

    Japanese will always be the canon language for FF (and most other JRPG's).

    Please, for the love of my medieval-philosophy-studying heart, don't let game companies touch ancient languages more than it is strictly necessary ; ^ ;

    I really recommend Tekken 7, not just for Noctis. It's my favourite series next to Final Fantasy and Tekken 7 is by far the best and most polished instalment yet. It's a lot of fun, although it's pretty technical (yet they've nerfed juggles, so characters won't spend as much time in the air as in previous entries). But you can have a good time learning the basics too. The PS4 version comes with nice exclusive modes where you can unlock every single FMV from previous games, scans of marketing material and the option to have any BGM from any soundtrack in the series playing at any stage. And the first DLC was Tekken Bowl, which is also a lot of fun.

    If anyone is interested in beginner tips and information, feel free to ask me!

    I loved Tekken on PS1 and have always wanted to get back into it. This post has pushed me to.
