I have this friend and I was having dinner with her folks and I said "you japanese people sure make the best foods!" I meant it really because it was so delicious but all of a sudden they gave me this really nasty look so I asked "what's wrong?" then she said "um.... we're korean" then I went "oh.. is there really that much of a difference?" and almost immediately i was kicked out of the house! They could at least have give me a takeout box for complimenting their cooking!

So does anyone know what's her deal?

I know man they all really look the same.

They should have been polite, and at least thanked you.

That's what did it. It's pretty natural for a person to be offended by that. The mistake wasn't the main issue (though one should never assume a person is Japanese, Chinese, or any other variation of an Asian culture just because they look Asian.) The problem was that he implied that there wasn't much of a difference when in fact there is.

I think the main reason why they may have been upset is because like dnt the japanese and korean have some kind of beef with each other. I dont think they should have kicked you out though, it was an honest mistake, but you also probally shouldnt have said there wasnt much of a difference.

I think that they drew the line at "no difference". It's like saying that an otter is the same as a ferret because they're both in the weasel family. And as for all of you spouting that random gibberish, that would be considered racism.
