Samurai! Cool sword techniques beat guns any day! Plus, you would need to have the right gun. All a samurai needs is a sharp enough blade.

If you have a competent gunsman against a competent swordsman, the gunsman, barring exceptional circumstances, will always win. Swords do not work the same way that they do in anime, and bullets are not easily shrugged off.
