Buy AC2 and youtube everything else. You only need the ending to brohood and revelations to be caught up.

It was more along the lines of giving reason for the Americans fighting, that it's not just senseless killing of the English. And though Connor definitely won't be siding with the Brits, he's not really in it for the Americans either. Like Silverslide said, he's going to be looking for Templars. But this is the American Revolution after all, and so this theme as the Americans being victims and rising up is going to be expressed throughout.

    Also there's this:

Go for it. They kind of recap a bit at the beginning so you won't be too lost.

Just know that Desmond was kidnapped by Abstergo for a diddlying long time then got busted out by Lucy. You are now caught up.

Basically, the outside story (about Desmond in the year 2012) in the first game is almost nothing, so you can almost skip it. AC1 however, is the best way to start learning the game, as well as getting to play as the bad-ass Altair, who really needs more main games.

I think going from AC1 to AC2 after playing it would make you appreciate it more, but hey that's just me.

Playing AC2 immediately after AC1 (got them well after they were both released) I can attest to that as well. The leap forward in smoothness of gameplay, movement and all that is great.

I believe that too, but I didn't do that when I was first introduced to the series. I first did AC2, then AC Brotherhood, AC1, and then Revelations. Although I feel it a bit awkward from the others I played, I still enjoyed it! ;3

AC 1 is too unbearable for me to replay. It got boring doing the exact same mission over and over again. Go here, Get info, Kill target. Actually, is probably only unbearable because I was trying to 100% the game, which was just a tedious task when collecting all the flags and killing all the templar knights.

AC1 was a chore to playthrough for me. I prefer skipping the torture and getting to the improvements.
