Depends on which universe the battle is taking place. In Final Fantasy, the person with the gun is always the weakest (somehow a fcking rubber ball does more damage than bullets), in the Halo universe swords do nothing and everyone can do gravity defying jumps anyway.

If it took place on our normal earth then John put gun up and shoots Cloud and Cloud dies. If it took place in Midgar than Cloud. That guy takes gun fire like the ground. No pain. If it took place in Halo earth than John. Bubble shield goes up, Cloud tries to hack through it, Cortana calculates what Cloud's next move will be, and John puts gun up and shoots. Cloud puts his buster up, the bullets hit the sword, and John runs up and plants a plasma grenade on him Dead or Alive style and super kicks Cloud's ass to hell in a big explosion of plasma.

John: 2
Cloud: 1

Cloud dies and John moves on to kill more aliens. ^_^
