Rep is back! In an effort to make things a bit less complicated this time around, there will only be one rule: don't do anything in a rep comment that you wouldn't do anywhere else on the forum.

The point of the rep system is to encourage better posting. Be sure to give credit where it's due and award your fellow members with positive feedback!

…Or if someone's being ignorant, you can negrep them. Which ties back in with encouraging better posting. That's cool too.

..I'm not seeing it. I wasn't asking about how many points gave you what title. I wanted to know how 'points' differed from the reputation in general. I found a post later that explained it.

In my opinion the rep only increases people to abuse it. I have seen it in too many forums. If they dont like what you post they will de rep you. How is that even fair? Also not to mention people don't take you seriously. It is a like power struggle.

How is that unfair? If you make a post that is universally offensive or stupid, why should you expect to not be punished in some way for it? Besides that, rep doesn't actually gain you anything on the forums, it is a measure of something that has no actual value.

Also not to mention people don't take you seriously.

People wouldn't take you seriously even if you don't have a red rep box. People like EdgeMaverick and Samhain generally post dumb shit, and so people wouldn't like them even when they didn't have any negative rep.

Not really, since having or lacking rep doesn't actually grant you any additional powers or privileges in the forums.

I understand that, but The thing is the wrong people get punished and people abuse it. I don't think people should be punished for thinking outside the box or having an matter of an opinion of a post unless it was offensive. I didn't post anything offensive or stupid.
