Reputation - little boxes made of ticky-tacky

When I reset the system, I made it so that everyone got one point to let everyone spread it around for a little bit to get things started.

I took away that one point just now. If your box is grey, it just means you still haven't been repped.

I might sound stupid now, but how do you give rep points to someone? I've been reading through this thread but haven't seen someone with this answer. I'm not familiar with this system but I kinda like it.

At the bottom of every post is a little star. Click on the post you want to give rep to, choose either "I approve" or "I disapprove"(with "I approve" you have the option to leave a message, but with "I disapprove" you have to state why you disagree with the post), and click "Add to reputation" :3

Reputation is increased by 1 every year you're a member here, every 1,000 posts you make, and every 100 rep points you get.

So Silh defined how to get Reputation, but I've been noticing members with now 0 Reputation. It is not stated how you can loose Reputation or what causes Reputation loss. I am not trying to undermine anyone here, but for example this user is almost a 5 year vet, but has 0 Reputation. Technically he should have around 8-11 Reputation points, but he has a 0. I am just curious how this happens.

Well this would explain 0 Reputation for newer members, but a 4 year vet shouldn't have 0 Reputation right?

I would assume it goes for all members who haven't been given any Reputation points since it was reinstated. I have noticed some users have 0 Reputation and others have some Reputation, so I'm also lost.

People who haven't been repped since implementation have their rep reset to zero, it means exactly what it reads.

Not exactly I guess. I went from having 6 rep to none =\
Probably because I haven't received rep since it was reseted. I never really payed much attention to rep in the first place. E

That explains how much "Reputation" one has. See, you have three. That's how much rep you can give, I think.
But! Rep points, which the little gray/green/red box represents, are when people rep or negarep your post. It doesn't get more with years, it gets more when you're given more.

Either that, or I've got this all misunderstood.

You can only have reputation if you have at least one rep point. Once you have something, your reputation will be back where it's supposed to be.

Yup. I got repped for doing a sig job for somebody, I had zero and now I have five, just like before. :3

so basically this is just a system that people can obsess over. Don't get worried if you have none. You will gain more as your noteriety increases, and when you say something increadibly intelligent
