Fan Fic/Fan Art Collab!

In a combined attempt between Kairigirl and I [THAT SOUNDS FUN TO SAY 8O], we're going to try and bring back the Fan Fiction forum and the Fan Art forum together for a contest!

Thus far, there's something along the lines of taking a fic and drawing art for it or making a comic that follows along with a chapter from a fic! It can be small, long, short, funny, serious, whatever! All you have to do is either make a comic [This one might make the contest. -shrugs-] or do character designs of some sort for any fanfiction.

I'm opening up this thread for suggestions, ideas, anything you can think of. All will be considered for the contest but, don't go off and get your own ideas for your entry yet. ^^;

Just keep in mind that this is a combined attempt from both the Fan Fiction and Fan Art forums! And... erm... don't use your own story? -scratches head- Yeah, it hasn't gotten that far yet. -sweatdrop-

Just a quick question, do you need the auther's consent to use their story? Or can you pick up any fic you want? In case they're away, or they've left the forums, or whatever, you know.

Personally I want to make a fan-fic, with probably some manga-style drawings/pics on thes side or inbetween paragraphs to illustrate the story a bit. Sorta like a manga, but with more words. Sorta like a novel, but with mor pics xD

so you expect us to plagiarize someone else's creativity by aboloshing our own passion to create a thrill-seeking story coming from our own imaginations?? =O

Look at this way. We, the artists, are offering to draw for them, the writers. It'd be better for you to not draw for your own story, cause then there's no point to this, but if everyone works together and draw a for a friend, then we're getting a few other people involved in both the art forum and writing forum.

This way we're able to get the two forums to work together and create some really cool things. Artists help the writers out and at the same time we even get artists a little more famous around the forums. It's like a partnership.

If some people want, they could even get a comic or two started. Artist draws, writer creates the storyline.

We're hoping also to get the RP forum involved, but right now we're just sticking to an already set up storyline. Hence, the fanfic area. I believe they also are notified of this.

I'm gonna go with Eclipse on this, it'd be better to use our own stories in contrast to someone else's. Creativity and legallity or whatever. That, and I've already got a few pages of comics from some of my stories I can use :D

Yeah, that's what Eclipse suggested, at least. I'm kinda in favor of it, too.

Although, I can understand why you'd want us to work off someone's else's story, you know? If anything, that probably pushes our creativity (interpritations of characters and stuff) more than anything else would have.

Any idea when we're going to actually start said contest?

I guess that's understandable. Of course, if you wanted Fan Fiction and Fan Art to come together...you could always merge the two forums into something called Fan Creations >.>

DT, QJ, and I were talking of doing something like this once. I was the writing expert while QJ and DT were the artists. We collaborated on a general storyline and began to think up character backgrounds, but it kind of fell apart because of bad organization.

Think of this as a collaboration with friends. Find some people you enjoy to work with and work well with, and doing this shouldn't be that much of a problem. It's just like collaborating on anything else. If you do it right, the writer and artist should work together so that they are both happy with the way it turns out. Also, only having 1-2 partners is a good idea. Too many partners will cause conflicts in ideas, and things won't get anywhere.

My suggestion is that you might want to have two categories. An individual category and a group category so people have a choice if they want to work alone or with partners.

btw, way back when I joined, there was no such thing as "Fan Art" or "Fan Fic" it was more like a combined forum, until the mods decided it was either getting crowded or it was just easier to find art or just stories instead of having to look through each thread.

My suggestion is that you might want to have two categories. An individual category and a group category so people have a choice if they want to work alone or with partners.

@-@ I don't remember the forums back in 'o4. All I remember was that there were no art competitions and such. This is should be most interesting...

I also like the idea of the writers signing up with someone. What about if an annoucement was made of some sort about this...before the actual thread is made. That way, you can gather artists before it happens, and give writers to think about it. Once aritists are chosen, and an actual thread is made, maybe examples of each how each artist can draw can be put up. That way, the writers can choose who they wish. Or, just draw for your own fan fiction. I'm leaning more towards the first one...but, meh. o-o

How abouts we draw either:

Fan fic chars (which I don't get why cuz most fics are based upon already existing chars no?)

or

RP characters with consent from the characters creator. It's like doing a commision type thing but for free.

That way it'll be more fun because we get to visually design other people's characters.

I am definitely in for this. <3 I can't write creatively for beans, but at least I can somewhat draw. I was a little worried about this though since it looks like fanart is domineering over this competition. Maybe it should, but... eh. Let's get some good writers involved too.

What if everyone had the choice between making character designs from an fanfiction or roleplay, with the creater/roleplayer's consent of course, and letting someone turn a comedy fanfic or roleplay into a comic? Like... just one little part, or chapter, or maybe a parody sort of thing of it? -shrugs-

Either way, the fanfiction forum, and maybe the roleplaying forum too!, are gonna have to come in somewhere and I guess you can either do your own fic/roleplay or someone else's.
