    Default MadaraMoogle's Artwork

    Spoiler Spoiler: Sketches

Just a few of my quick sketches that I do during class. I wish I could upload some of my better artwork but the paper is to big for the scanner. Tell me what you think, I realize there are a few issues with them but they're sketches so it's bound to happen.

I plan on being a game artist and eventually a game designer. So I practice drawing everyday, tell me what you think. Constructive criticism is appreciated.

Me like the frog too. <3
And the figure in the first pic. Do you use a scanner?

    Thank you <3
Is there anything you see that needs improvement?
Yeah, I use a scanner. But it messes up the shading and the line depth though.

I'm not able to upload any of my actual artwork because the paper is about 10X larger than the paper my sketches are on.

    ONE:
I absolutely love the detail in the drawing; I can see the amount of effort and dedication you put in it, and that passion really carries across through to the viewer. I also like the design of the outfit -- very fantasy-esque and very intricate.

What you could use some improvement on is body proportioning -- the torso looks much too long for the short legs. I am not sure if this was done intentionally due to the character being of non-human origin (see the hooves), but still, the proportions just don't seem quite right to me. Also, for this kind of style, you'll need to do more shading. The drawing is much too light and undercontrasted to really 'pop' off the page.

That said, it still is my favorite of all three uploads.

    TWO:
I, again, am liking the detail, but it feels lackluster to me; it lacks the three dimensional quality that I believe you may have intended.

I like the design you created -- the hand up top, especially -- but I think it needs further work and refining. In particular, stronger shading would definitely help your style.

    THREE:
This was actually my least favorite of the three up there. Not to say that it is bad; it isn't at all: the perspective is perfect, as are the proportions. Why I dislike it is because of the lack of detail being put into it. It is also much too faint. Granted it may have been an artistic choice, it remains one that is not to my tastes at all.

I hope these comments are helpful but not hurtful, and that you will continue to upload more of your art; I am a fan.

The frog reminds me of my signature. Very good drawings.

More sketches from class, again, any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated:

@LongLiveLife - I appreciate your critique, it's just a lot to try and respond to in terms of length. But I see what you're saying about the proportion and shading. These are just sketches so I don't usually bother with shading but more of outlining, plus these are all done in 5-15 minute range.

@HamsterLord- Thank you very much, feel free to tell me anything you notice that may need improving.

    ONE:
WHY DID YOU STOP?! Everything in here is perfect: starting from the framing, to the positioning, and right down to the perspective. This is really interesting, and if you truly did this in the fifteen minute time range, I am amazed.

Continue on this, please. It really is the best work I've seen you put up, and it just begs for polishing. Add some more detailed shading to the figure, a face for the body, remove that colossal mass of empty space to the right, and I can see this turning into something close to professional standards.

    TWO:
I am definitely impressed by the intricacies of the patterns on the glove, and I can think of little to improve it. The subject works well as a line drawing, so leaving it unshaded is fine in this case.

    Good job on both!

Thanks LongLiveLife ^^ And yes, I truly did do these in a range of 15 minutes, that tends to be amount of spare time I have during class. I'm not really sure what to add to the empty space though, I wasn't really thinking much at the time, just drawing.

I can show you the picture of the original glove if you want, I kind of messed up on the thumb but it's only noticeable when pointed out.

I really appreciate the critique and stuff

The design of the first image is actually pretty nice. It does lack depth, which could be given through shading, but that's really the only revision that I would recommend. The anatomy looks to be fairly precise, as well.

Second image, to be blunt, could have more to it. I think scaling the head of the staff elsewhere to give it more room for detail will be of great advantage to you.

Third is pretty spot on for what I would recognise in a frog, so well done with that.

Fourth is definitely one to continue with, when you get the chance to do so.

And the fifth is looking rather spectacular, but once again, lacks that final bit of detail that could be obtained through shading or cross-hatching, even.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. Shading seems to be the main thing lacking in most, I'll make sure to shade any future pieces as much as time permits me.

For the second image, would you mind going a bit more in depth? I see what you're saying vaguely. The hand at the top is attached to a bone forearm which is why it has the length. But I can see why the forearm might be difficult to see with way the scan rescales the picture.

What I was saying is that I think that making a larger copy of the second piece would be advantageous for the fact of being able to get more detail into it, as well as sharper, more defined edges etc., and to be honest, I didn't realise it was actually the bone of a forearm. All I noticed was the pieces of material falling around that area.

I see what, you're saying. The actual drawing is bigger than the scanned image and it's much easier to see the bone, maybe I'll add some more detail and rescan it at a larger size, I probably should have shaded the forearm part to make it a bit more distinguishable.

Oh, I'm not calling it any fault on your part at all. I just thought that a larger version would end up a lot nicer.
