Default Nate River: Child Prodigy (recent painting)

This evolved from a basic, sketch of Near due to being bored and wanting to try out drawing him, into something more.

I'm still not sure if I'm satisfied with the style I went for the painting, but I guess it's good practice ^_^ took a couple of days, and I may or may not end up changing it later on, but here it is

Btw, wrinkles in clothing are my weakpoint, so have mercy >:

I sketched him, and drew his outline over and over, until I used the pentool in the end to make a clean outline of my drawing. So, what?

Yeah I don't know what caused that. It was smooth in the beginning.

EDIT
: Fixed the jaggies, and made the whole thing cleaner.

You have a Cintiq and you use the pen tool? D:

What the ****. Try and finish a piece next time with the tablet only. If you're going for the "no lineart" style, then it's better if you learn the basics of CGing first which would be much easier to learn with lineart.

Uhhh, no, I just used the pen tool to create a clean, straight outline for my character. I don't have a very steady hand so when I draw outlines they aren't always very straight. I sketched the character on my own, using the pencil and brushes, but in the END I made the outline with the pentool so it would be precise, clicking to each point.

What don't you guys understand?
I sketched the entire thing with the pencil and brush tool, then I colored it, then I made a clean line-art with the pentool because the human hand is imperfect and my hand can be unsteady when drawing straight lines. Because I used the pentool you guys are complaining about HOW I drew this? Wow, find something better to do.

Which I did....I made a lineart....with the Cintiq.

Also, I updated the link with a better, clean version of the painting.

Sorry, didn't mean tablet only.

Brush tool only.

You don't think my hand's not steady? It's practice. Plus, the pentool limits your ability to go farther than what your hand allows you to do excluding the fact of how time consuming it is.

Wow, take some ****ing critique. If you don't like what we say, explain yourself better or don't post your stuff here. Most people are going to be all up in your face with posts like "OMG SO GOOD! 10/10", "omg itz near from death note. i luv it~ <33333333333", but the more experienced and those who frequent this section a bit more give advice and critique.

If you can't lineart properly with your hand, you'll never be able to do well compared to artists who "specialize" with the brush tool. tl;dr they do everything with it.

Yeah, that's what I'm doing, I draw every day to get a steadier line-art hand :3 it's just that for the final representation in this piece, I wanted it to look good lol.

Really? With the Cintiq it was rather easy. I just point-point-point-point-point with the tabletpen around the lineart and it's done. Didn't take very long at all for me.

In the end, I erased the line art and used the brush-tool to make a clean edge to erase the jaggies, so really there are no traces of the pentool for the line-art in there anymore.

I do, but it's different when to people moan at me about the TECHNIQUE I used to make a line-art >_> which in the end I ended up taking out.

I can line-art with my hand, but it takes longer and is not as clean or time-saving as if I used the pen-tool in the end. How I made the line-art has nothing to do with this.

I can point-point-point around my stuff too if I wanted, but you'll come to realize after a while that:

1) It doesn't look nearly as good as hand-drawn lines at all.
2) Hardly improves skill.
3) Doesn't let you use different techniques.

I'll baaaaaaaaaaaaw all I want about your technique if I don't like what your technique's end result is. My moaning that you seem to hate is actually a complaint that's telling you to stop doing what you're doing and do something else so you can get bettar :v

tl;dr It's like me saying that I want you to improve.

Also, if you can't do it quickly right now, do you think taking the easy way out with the pen tool will help? You can do mini sketches all you want and "train" your hand, but if you don't put all your effort into a finished piece and end up taking an easy route, then what's the point of practicing?

---------

Also haven't said anything about the picture itself.

- The brightness rapes my eyes. You have a tendency to make your images bright as ****, therefore thinking bright=good. No lol.
- Background colours don't work... at all. Like... no :v
- I don't even know what the background is. It's an incomprehensible mass of ugly colours, high contrast, filters and I don't know what.
- Lmao, angular wrinkles :v
- One leg is horrendously longer than the other.
- Awkward sitting position. I tried it, it's awkward.
- Overall anatomy's pretty good.
- GRADIENTS, HOLY SHIT. why? D:
- Red tint on his skin is too apparent and doesn't work well.
- :v no pupils fsdfsfadsfs
- Hair doesn't work with the rest of the character. Shading style that is.
- Composition is pretty coo'
- I liek that signature >:C

Overall, my major dislike about the picture is the colours. They're despicable :< Otherwise it's fairly good despite my long list of LOL WROOOOOOONG. A lot of it was just personal opinion though.

Its not bad that, a bit too jaggedy and blurry for my liking but very good job though man.

Yes it does. Once again, you really have no way of knowing my case when it comes to this drawing.

Then baaaaaaaw all you want. I can use the pentool if I want. I can use Photoshop how I like.

I see what you mean, but I don't see anything wrong with wanting to use the pentool to make the end result not look like crap for the viewer's sake :v

Though I guess I'll not use the pentool in the future until I'm actually good at line-art, to save time >_>
