Default The Vampire Diaries

So, it's the new show coming out on The CW and CTV about Vampires. personally, I'm interested. Maybe we'll get a show that does Vampires justice (Like Buffy or Angel. God I miss those shows) and such. Although, the main thing that caught my attention is that it has Nina Dobrev from Degrassi: The Next Generation and The American Mall so that also makes me wanna watch it. It begins showing on September 10, 2009 at 8 P.M. (or different time for different zones, I think).

Anyway, anyone else hope this doesn't kill Vampires like the Twilight saga has?

Actually, it reminded me exactly of Twilight, and in a very bad way... No Sparkly-friggen Vampires but a "IloveyoubutyouravampiresoIshouldkeepmydistancebutI'mtotallyinluvwithyou" series.

Yeah, I'm getting that vibe, too. Apparently it's based on a book (Oh god, even more possible connection to that of Twilight >.> ) which I should see if it has any good story. Although if it ends up being like Twilight, I will abandon this show, even if it has Nina Dobrev. Or if it's like True Blood, soft-core porn. I'm rreeeaaallllyyyy hoping it's like Buffy, or at least well written.

Oh, I found the plot of the First Book on Wikipedia.org:
Quote:
The first book introduces the reader to Elena Gilbert, a beautiful and popular high school student in the small town of Fell's Church, Virginia, her friends: Bonnie, Meredith, Matt, and Caroline, Elena's old friend who now is her competition. As their senior year begins, Elena pursues the mysterious new guy in town, Stefan Salvatore. Stefan's resistance is met with Elena's determination, and she eventually discovers his secret: that Stefan is a centuries-old vampire. As Elena and Stefan fall in love, strange attacks begin to happen in the town while a dark and seductive stranger appears to Elena. Elena eventually learns that the stranger is Stefan's older brother Damon. In Renaissance Italy, the brothers both fell in love with a young vampire named Katherine, who later committed suicide after the two brothers turned against each other when she decided to choose them both as lovers and exchanged blood with them. Fueled with rage, the brothers killed each other but woke up as vampires. The Awakening ends with Elena seeking out Damon whom she believes to be the prime suspect for Stefan's disappearance after the townspeople begin to suspect the latter to be behind a recent murder and the strange attacks.
Errr... I'm not too sure I like how that sounds. I think I'm actually going to hate the show now.

EDIT: Also off of Wikipedia, but this is about the show and how it differs from the book

Quote:
The television series has changed many things in adapting the novels to screen. Some minor changes include characters' last names being changed and their relationships to each other somewhat altered. Some major changes include renaming the town the story is set in, Fell's Church, to Mystic Falls, as producers were unable to get legal clearance for the name. Also, Jeremy Gilbert, Elena's younger brother, is not a character in the novels (Elena instead has a little sister named Margaret). Similarly, the character of Jenna Somers, Elena's aunt, was originally named Judith Gilbert in the novels. The character of Bonnie in the novels was a red head and a descendant to the Druids, in the TV series she is African-American and is a descendant of the Salem witches. Also Vicki and Matt are brother and sister in the TV series but aren't in the novels.

Both Damon's and Stefan's backstories have also been changed. Instead of hailing from Renaissance Italy, Stefan and Damon appear to be from Civil War-era Mystic Falls. Another addition is Zach, Stefan and Damon's human relative, as this character never appeared in the novels. Also, in the novels, Elena is described as a blonde, blue-eyed, "ice princess", whereas in the show she is a brown-eyed brunette. In the books, Caroline is also depicted as an "Egyptian Princess", where in the show she has blonde hair and blue eyes. Elena's other best friend Meredith from the novel is not in the TV series. However, it has been hinted that she will eventually appear.
Seems better than the book, but I'm still not sure if it'll be good or not.

Based on that little bit, it looks like utter crap and a big ball of boring and confusion.

edit: I lot of it sounds like it was changed to be like twilight. Main girl is brown hiared now. The guys are from cival war time, and the possible hot girl is a blonde.

I'm sort of starting to regret even getting interested in this show. Well, I also checked on certain critics sights and some thing from AOL, and some reviews were favorable, while some were negative. Anyway, I'll watch the first episode on Thursday and then rant about if it's kick-ass or very bad like Twilight. Until then, god only knows (and of course the people on the show) where this show will end up.

shows need to back off the vampire bit for a while. its gotten to the point 've become disgusted with all things vampire.. i'm starting to wear light colored clothes. the books arent that great anyway and the actors will do a subpar job of being mediocre.

Well it's Vampires so I'll give it a shot and record it on the DVR but it does sound slightly cliched, but I watched the entire series of Power Rangers Mystic Force so hey I might like it.

Okay, well I saw the first episode yesterday, so it's time for me to start/update my rant on this show. So far, it seems alright. Not "OMFGHAHSHA LET'S SCREAM ABOUT IT'S AWESOMENESS KIMMMII!!!!" or "OMFG NOT TWATLIGHT AGAIN!!!!" It's alright. So far, they haven't killed the Vampire thing yet, like Twilight did, so that's good. And they actually respect some of the Vampire "Rules". Like they can only go out in Sunlight if they have a certain ring on (like Spike did in Buffy in that one episode in that one season) or else they go "BOOM!" There hasn't been any "I'm dangerous, stay away"-like dialog so that's a plus. And I think the actors acted pretty good. A hell of a lot better than Twilight if you ask me.

Anyway, this is all my thoughts on the show so far. I will be watching the entire series (Yes, the entire series) to talk about how the episodes are good, bad, alright, trashy, and how to avoid this show if it becomes Twilight or watch this show if it becomes something original. And I hope to god they actually change a lot of the things from the books. I hate the "OMFG LET'S MAKE ME A VAMPIRE!!!!" that may happen in this season, next season, or some times in the series.

Oh, and also. There's crows in the show. CROWS!!!

I have spoken.

The Vampire Diaries books have been around since 1991.
Twilight has been around since 2005. If anything is a rip-off, it would be Twilight.

Although it does seem like they changed the main character to be a Bella-look alike than a Blond like how she was in the book (which I haven't read so i cannot criticize yet). But trust me, th show is much, much better than Twatlight. At least, so far it is.

I'd love to hear how it was worse. If anything, it was a lot more faithful to Vampires than Twilight was, and hasn't gone done the "I'm dangerous stay away!!!!" or the "Make me a Vampire Edwa- I mean Zach". But please, I want to hear your criticism. I'm being serious, too. Because if I know this show takes a wrong turn and becomes as bad or worse than Twilight, I will beginning pointing out it's flaws in here.
