| Sidekick | My computer never use to be a little slow, it was always fast and I didn't install that many programs yet it is still slow. I like to think it is the memory but I believe I have too many programs on, not it was problem before but seriously I may not have that big of a computer however it was fast before. Do you know of any methods of speeding my computer up? |

| November Blue | How many GBs of RAM do you have (or do you even know)? And also, what's running in your systray (that thing in the bottom right)? Exact names would be nice. |

| ⎳ΣGΣNDΛRΨ | Eh. One almost 100% garaunteed way to speed up your PC is to back up all your system to an external hard drive, and then just reinstall windows, thereby clearing it of all the data that bloats it and slows it down. That's what I'm going to do soon. |

Rep Power: 8 ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | It really depends on what's slowing down your comp. Try Iobit's Advance System Care which includes SmartRAM. Might help clear up some stuff. But without knowing what's really slowing down your comp and the specs on it who knows. |

Rep Power: 3 ![]() Level: 10 EXP: | Edit, 256 ram isn't much, most programs require more, baseline memory usage is about 300 mb's on mine, with xp. I reccomend a new com of about 400 to 500 bucks, especially after windows 7 is launched. |

| EVIL NETWORK OVERLORD | Defrag the harddrive. Win XP can run fine with 256Mb ram. Its likely that the harddrive is fragmented, causing issues with your ramdisk (aka pagefile.sys). Defragging will reorder your files, but I would backup any important data. Since windows will be physically moving data around, it could become corrupted. ~~Azu |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() Level: EXP: | you should also do a check for viruses or spyware that may be running in the background. they tend to tie up the memory pretty badly. |
