| the dank | This is now about my computer. My dad wouldn't let me get a laptop because he says it's impractical so I'm building my own PC, and I've already started buying the parts. He's cool with me building a PC I guess :/ last post is updated with all my shit and stuff Last edited by Trag; July 22nd, 2009 at 04:40 AM. Rep Power: 3 ![]() Level: EXP: | Hi, I have a HP SmartBuy 550 laptop and i love it. So I recommend this to you. it has Core 2 Duo on it, and i really haven't had a single problem with it. Most important, it is a decent laptop for our students. Last edited by jgtufballssss; September 14th, 2009 at 10:33 AM. |

| the dank | The only problem with that is that I need one that's extremely portable, such as a Netbook's portability. |

| EVIL NETWORK OVERLORD | I use an acer aspire one (150 model). 1.6Ghz Singlecore "Atom" Proc. 1Gb DDR 1 (533) 160Gb HDD 8.9" LCD As long as you aren't planning to play games, it works fine. Even with Win 7. ..and it also has about a 90% fullsize laptop keyboard. Which I find easier to use than an Asus eee pc. But it still takes getting used to. And if you need to install softare, you'll need either a usb cd/dvd drive.. or a iso mounting program & cd rips. ~~Azu |

| the dank | Thank you for your replies, and I have been comparing the model of the Asus EEE PC 1000 I would like to purchase and I have decided to go with the Asus, I'm buying a 2gb RAM card and a Logitech Wireless Mouse, and it all racks up to be under 500. Again, thank you anyway :D |

| the dank | Alright, so I'm building a new computer and I could use some advice and some guidance. Currently, I'm working on getting a CPU, Motherboard, CD/DVD Drive, HDD, Video Card and keyboard/mouse. I have these items in my possession: RAIDMAX Smilodon Case (the blue) Welcome to Raidmax! Rosewill Case Fan /w Blue LED Rosewill.com - Accessories, Cooling Device, Case Fan, 80mm Series, RFA80L-B I could really use advice, and possibly someone willing to tell me if I'm going in the right direction. All would be appreciated. Last edited by Trag; July 29th, 2009 at 04:09 AM. |

But you need to know firstly, what is the machine to be used for? And be specific, don't just say 'general purpose'. If you need particular programs, name them. If you want a particular game to be playable, name it. Otherwise, you'll end up paying more for something you don't need, or not enough for something you do. One reason, is that we can look up specs for the program/games to have a base of what the machine needs to be able to perform well. Also, it wouldn't hurt to link what your current spec/thoughts are, so we can know what you are currently thinking of looking into. And lastly, a budget would help, as it would give us an idea of the hardware you would be able to actually AFFORD. ~~Azu |

| the dank | Indeed, my post is bare and vague :/ I'm using my pc for gaming/office purposes. Here's my current wishlist with Newegg, and it's a hefty sum. I can't go over 800, so if you would be willing, the list could use trimming. I'm hoping you can see this: Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg I'm not worried about programs that I need currently, or an OS. It would be nice to be able to run Crysis, I want to check what all the hullabaloo is about, so I'd be willing to spend extra on my video card, although I was told the one in my wishlist was fine. |

| the dank | I don't believe so, but I may be mistaken. After a quick google search I found that only basic things can be replaced, such as RAM, HDD, etc, but again, I may be mistaken. |

From what I can tell from your wishlist, that's a nice build for a nice price. The only thing I'm questioning is the 1.5 TB of harddrive space. Do you really need that much? Good mobo, good processor, good amount of RAM, great video card. . . You're power supply has a great amount of wattage as well, usually people try to skip out here and don't get enough. Seems like everything you're getting will work quite well. I would say go for it. oh dang, just read the $800 part. hmmm. . . well, you can always cut down on how much your keyboard/mouse is, but that won't save you much. If you were willing to make the sacrifice, getting a core 2 duo would bring your cost down quite a bit. dang. But my guess is, you're not going to be able to play crysis (well) on an $800 comp.

| the dank | I expected as much, which sucks, because that's a lot of fucking cash ( for me at least) to be putting into a computer, but I can always upgrade when I get the money (why i love pc's). Thanks for the insight. |

Because that seems to be the easiest to upgrade, as well as the least expensive. You'll be able to do quite a bit with 2 GBs of RAM. Dangit, just checked newegg, that would only save you about $30 dollars :[
