| { No Life/No Death } | torrented, and burned to disk. Windows 7 Ultimate runs pretty damn smooth. Last edited by Zion; October 29th, 2009 at 08:51 AM. |

Rep Power: 12 ![]() ![]() ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | So erm, I've been thinking about upgrading to this from Vista and I want to know: is there really that big of a difference between the two OS's that would make upgrading worth it at all? I've been hearing nice things about it but I want to be sure. |

Rep Power: 3 ![]() Level: EXP: | I haven't acquired the retail version yet, but from what I compared between Vista and W7RC, it's more stable. There are some differences, like various Aero themes. Mild differences in the explorer Window, but they're noticeable. Also, I tried loading up eight apps on W7RC that wouldn't run on Vista, and guess what... 7/8 of them worked!!! So yes, as far as I can tell, W7 is a good step up from Vista. There are other new features to it as well, but I haven't gone through every little thing. If you're really that curious, just torrent a copy to try it out before buying an official one. |

| Ooh, what does this button do?! | I torrented it the other day. Took for ever to download and forever to install. But it's done now and I love it. I miss my Mac theme for Vista, though... |

| rendez-vous à l'horloge, 1992. | I have Vista at the moment and I don't like it. Slow as shit, doesn't run anything properly, etc. etc., so I'm going to either upgrade to Windows 7 or downgrade to XP. Well, I'd call XP an upgrade since Vista's crap and they seemed to have sacrificed competance for prettiness. I'm familiar with XP and it does everything I want it to. My computer's not bad at all, it's just the Vista on it that makes it shit. So I want to know who here has tried out W7, and if they would recommend XP instead? I just don't trust W7 going by Vista's supposed status as an upgrade. |

Rep Power: 0 ![]() Level: EXP: | W7 is definitely a step up from Vista. Everything just runs much more smoothly. The only problem I've had with it is that I can't get my scanner to work with it, seeing as the software just doesn't want to be installed. I haven't looked too much into it, since I don't really use the scanner at all, but everything else has been good. So @ Du Soleil: I'd upgrade. At least to try it out. |

Rep Power: 12 ![]() ![]() ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | Everything I've heard about Windows 7 says it runs a lot better than Vista, that and it's backwards compatible with Vista and XP programs (although I have no personal experience with it, as you see I myself asked the same question as you just posts before) If you end up deciding to upgrade I'd suggest getting Professional or Ultimate because anything below that isn't XP-compatible. I'd probably have tried upgrading by now if my computer could read discs. :/ Last edited by Chevalier Sombre; November 7th, 2009 at 05:02 PM. |

| Ooh, what does this button do?! | Everything else is fine. I looked at the comments from others who downloaded the torrent and they said there are no viruses whatsoever. Everything is fine, it's just this site that lags when I come. Or maybe Safari is having issues... |

| rendez-vous à l'horloge, 1992. | Why don't you use Firefox? Even on the shitty Vista I have now, Firefox works fine. |

| rendez-vous à l'horloge, 1992. | So, Vista finally fucked me up the ass today when my computer started randomly spazzing out, I rebooted, the system crashed, wouldn't let me get past the loading bar page, had to completely clean my harddrive of three years of work, all my music and pictures are gone, and I don't even have a fucking OS anymore. Didn't think Vista was horrendously bad, but now? I fucking hate the thing. So, tomorrow I have to get a new OS. Thinking of XP or 7. XP, you say? |

| the dank | Are you sure it was the operating system? It could have been something else. You might want to invest in an external harddrive, they are really cheap. |

| rendez-vous à l'horloge, 1992. | The harddrive's fine; when I first got the computer, it ran like a beauty and took hardly any time in loading anything up. Think the Net slowed it down but not much. I also started encountering compatability problems with Vista concerning Windows Live Messenger (basically, every time I logged in, WLM crashed) and Skype kept dropping my calls ALL the time and logging out, even though it doesn't do that on this computer, which is my granddad's computer and is in the room next to mine. Also, Yahoo stopped working, AIM wouldn't work, system used to crash all the time with Firefox. But, yeah. I mean, this computer has an external harddrive and runs XP, and does everything perfectly. Just a bit concerned about Vista since I officially don't trust it now. |
