Default Windows Media Player

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, and my Windows Media Player doesnt do anything, when i click on the icon to open it, it does nothing. I cant uninstall it, and i cant install a new one because of that. I tried going to Microsoft, but im not paying $60 to ask them whats wrong with it. Any suggestions?

Windows Media Player is listed in the Windows Components section of Add/Remove Programs (or at least it is in XP - it's been a while since I've looked at that list in Vista). So, if you can't uninstall it because it's not listed in Add/Remove Programs, check there. If you can't uninstall it because the uninstall won't work, I'm not sure what the cause of that is.

My only current suggestion is to go run Windows Update until your system is fully up to date if it isn't already. This may fix your current install without having to uninstall and then reinstall.

Try going to your C drive, go into Programs and find your WMP folder and see if there's an uninstall package in there.

If not, delete the folder and download WMP 11 again (google it maybe?).

Hope it helps.

All my other Windows things are there like Window Live Messenger, but not Media Player

I tried deleting the folder and it wouldnt let me do that, it was saying that i need permission to delete it, but the button to grant access isnt there...

I wouldnt really care, but i need to get a new MP3 player, and i dont want another Ipod, and i dont think other MP3 players work with Itunes

Have you tried Winamp?

It's a simple media player that (I think) should work with any mp3 player, except maybe iPod and Zune.

Winamp DOES support iPods, not sure about Zunes, but don't get Winamp, foobar2000 supports a shitton of files, it isn't processor heavy, and supports most (if not all) MP3 and MP4 players.
