PlayStation 3 Backwards Compatability

I was online the other day, and I read that only 70% of PS2 games are compatible with the 80GB PS3. Is this true, or do all games work? And if only 70% work, which games work?

I'm pretty sure its like that. I'm not sure that its exactly 70% but its around there. Essentially its just major games and most of them you have will work.
The 80gig is like that because they learned they could make them cheaper by messing around with some CPU's, Processors, etc. The only downside is that the BC got the short end of the stick.

false! tales of abyss isnt listed, but ive played it on my PS3

It's not "false", that is Sony's official website for Europe's backwards compatibility.

North America, Europe, and Japan all have separate Backwards Compatibility lists, so that is why you were able to play a game not on the list, because that was Europe's BC list.

Well it depends which model you get. If you're hoping to get the 40GB because it's cheaper, then you will have 0% backwards compatibility, as the 40GB PS3 can not play PS2 games period. The 80GB, as mentioned, has roughly 70% compatibility with PS1 and PS2 games, though chances are if it's a mainstream/popular PS2 game then that was a priority game to make compatible and you should be able to play it.

You shouldn't talk in bold, it's annoying.

Anyway, 70% is the games that run completely, with no problems. There might be a little lag or some unoticable things, but the titles that don't work completely are so obscure nobody plays them anymore.
