| Keyblade Master | The other day I was having a discussion with my I.T. Co-coordinator and he told me of a rumor that the Internet could potentially be full by as early as 2010, as skeptic as I was, it got the best of me and I conducted my own research, have a guise at what I found. Anyone cry "BS"? Quote:

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | lol.... well I didnt read the article so I dont know exactly if its this you are talking about, but anyway, Im guessing its regarding IP addresses all being taken, but thats not going to happen, because IPv6 is supposed to be implemented soon. And as for bandwidth, more and more new technology is being used, and cables are not hard to be made.... there's satelite, there's fiber optic, there's many other resources that can be used. Bandwidth wont be a problem either. Last edited by Forever Atlas; 04-27-2008 at 04:03 PM. Reason: >.> error |

| Ruler of Light | that's crazy. i'm no techy, but if that were to happen. many useless sites would have to be deleted to save space. like this one. jk. the obvious answer would be infinate. but approximately how many gigs does the internet have?

| AKA Mickxey | I agree. What's the point of keeping older sites? Like the official game sites for older games like PS1 and N64. Obvious solution=DELETE!

Yeah, we are running out of IP addresses. However, NO, its not an issue. As for the upgrade, if the government can spend billions of tax payer's dollars on ignorant things, they'll have no problem with funding our internet.

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | I didn't even know the internet had a capacity. but if it does they can start by deleting all those crap search engines you get to when you spell google wrong like http://googl.com/ hell, there's even a knockoff of khinsider, khinsidr.com

Rep Power: 3 ![]() | Lets break this down, websites can be created with no end... as long as there are servers to hold them. Its so easy for anyone to get TB servers now and days. Memory beyond need of use is available for anyone in common stores now. You could go to Best Buy and get a TB hard drive... You can build a website anywhere as long as you have the tools and memory to do so. The problem isnt websites, its the traffic they are saying I guess. Websites dont generate the problem. Though they must have an address. Thus the IP issue which is planned to be solved with IPv6 seeing as how websites are usually given a static address. However, if more bandwidth is needed, thats up to the service providors who can build more lines and use more sources. The net is far from being full... and there is no need to delete websites because of that fear. If anything, sure maybe block some people from traversing the net. But its really the issue of, more people online as the days go by, more traffic, more bandwidth needed. Usually if you have a designated line, thats not even a problem, its as easy as getting a new telephone number. yada yada, idk if anyone is following me, end of point, thats utter rubbish :-p |

| Crimson | Uh, the number of websites isn't the problem. Those are hosted on servers. Nothing being bothered by the sites themselves. As for the number of available IP addresses, that is being remedied with IPv6. Routers have already been introduced to convert from IPv4 to IPv6. However, it takes time for the routers to actually effectively be put into action. It's impossible to just shut down the internet for a day or so and reinstall all routers. And the new routers have to rebuild their routing tables, which takes time. Real problem, as has been stated, is the actual available bandwidth. Companies have been far more focused on things other than optimizing the available bandwidth, and as such, the internet's infrastructure is suffering in the long run. Unless something is done, yes, the growth will grind to a halt and using the Internet will become more selective.
