I got a DSOne Supercard in March and I haven't bought a DS game since, just been rommin' it all the way!

I don't think Square Enix had very high hopes for this game, so it was probably released with very limited quantities

Since release it's sold around 500,000 copies though, so hopefully that shows S-E that there's a market for this kind of game..and those figures are mildly impressive considering the game had absolutely no advertisement campaign and pretty much sold alone on word-of-mouth.

That's the great thing about having a DS Flashcard. I don't have to buy games, and, considering that I live in Australia, I get access to all games months before they make their way here. And the game ROMs are usually available for download three days after the release in any given location.

That's because the game isn't Final Fantasy. Why should Square Enix bother supporting anything other than it's cashcow that it's mindless fans eat up?

Tru dat. It's surprising really, they haven't made a single game that is definitively bad, most are good or better, yet they think that they will make money only with games that have the words 'Final Fantasy' in them.

And hey, I'm not a thief, I'm not the one ripping all the ROMs, and if it was truly illegal, then the Legitimate store I got them from would have closed down years ago, and Flashcard owners and makers would go to jail.

Seriously, it's just like with video recording. Technically, it is illegal to record a TV program that companies have paid to be shown once, but people do it anyway, and it's as common and as accepted as buying the episodes yourself.

That's like saying you buying heroin isn't illegal, because hey, you're not the one making it.

And Flashcart manufacturers do get shut down, and stores that sell them do close down. Several shops in Akihabara were shut down by Nintendo for selling DS Flashcarts, and the makers of the Flashcart "R4" had their facilities shut down in China by Nintendo, and the workers there were arrested

Except that a few months later the previous makers of R4 came out form the underground and released the "M3" Flashcart. The pirating community is too rampant to just say "Well if it was illegal they'd all be gone already", which is just not true, plenty of things are illegal but that doesn't mean there's a large enough Law Enforcement to completely eradicate their existence.

And your TV show analogy is irrelevant as well, considering a web site that provided recording of TV shows and movies called "TV-Links" was shut down by the United Kingdom Parliament because what it was doing was illegal. Things like "Tivo" and Cable company DVRs are legal because they require that a Television be tuned into the channel so that the Broadcasting companies still get their "viewers" and can be paid for their advertisement efforts

I understand that, but the companies only pay to have the show watched once and at that specific time.
And it's not an analogy, it's literal.

Anyway, this is meant to be TWEWY Thread, so I think we should keep it that way. I might open up a thread about the morality of flash cards though, as I am curious as to people's opinions of such an issue.

Should it go under the discussion or technology forum?
