| ~Ichiban~ | Gamasutra - Square-Enix's Wada: 360 And PS3 'Over-Engineered' Square-Enix's Wada: 360 And PS3 'Over-Engineered' A new interview with Square Enix CEO Yoichi Wada has seen the influential executive emphasis the importance of the handheld market, particularly the Nintendo DS and describe the Xbox 360 and PS3 as “mismatched” to emerging new demographics. Speaking in a new article by the Financial Times, Wada suggested that the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 were poorly suited to the current market and that handheld consoles would continue to dominate sales this year, as the demographics of consumers fundamentally alters following the success of the Nintendo DS and Wii. Referring to the decision to release Dragon Quest IX only on the Nintendo DS, instead of a Sony format, Wada said: “We chose the Nintendo DS because the widest array of people use it, including people who previously did not play games before.” “There is a new breed of gamers in the market – we have to make games for all kinds of people,” added Wada. “In the old days, we could just focus on the PlayStation or the Game Boy, but the environment has changed completely.” Wada also accused the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 of being over-engineered, saying; “There are too many specs – and you also need a high-definition TV, a broadband connection and a deep knowledge of gaming – these consoles are mismatched to today’s environment. In a year or two years they will fare better.” POSTED: 06.03AM PST, 06/12/07 - David Jenkins |

| Technolust | Ouch, bad for 360 and PS3, apparently Square thinks that multimedia home-theater gaming systems are a couple of years ahead of their time. Taking this out of context, does this mean Square is creeping toward Nintendo exclusitivity, and that means KH for DSWii? |

| BBS ftw! | I'm more like, if you can make games for the Wii, why the hell not port em right over to the PS2 as well. I mean, if you wanna attract the biggest audiance, you got about 100 million PS2 owners to take care of. Yeah I know, PS2 is nearly dead, but Wii games can easily be ported to PS2, or more or less (look at the new Spyro game coming up, coming to Wii and PS2. The versions are identical, although they had to dumb down the graphics for the PS2 verison a tiny bit)... Anytime soon, people will want the nice graphics instead of the fun gameplay. It's always been that way. Graphics can always amaze you, as the graphics cards are never used to its full potential until the end of the console life. But gameplay is just to get used to, and then its over. Its hype, in the end. |

Rep Power: 5 ![]() | I don't really like this statement, I mean statements like that tell you that there is no point for higher-quality consoles and new next generation hardware, that is what I get out of this. I mean games need to keep up at the pace of the gamers. The 8-12 year olds are now 16-17+, we are entering the new era of games and technology. I beleive its time for others to stick with the motion. I'm not saying the games suited for children and for everyone is a bad thing, but what about those who are into the newer things as well? |

| recrEAte | In a year or two years they will fare better.” So what happens to the Wii and DS in a year? That means that the 360 and PS3 will thrive because HD gaming will be more relevant. So, nobody will want to play on SDTV's with their Wii. Good quote Wada. A bit of a backhanded statement don't you think? |

| Keyblade Master | And to be honest, the graphics of the PS3 and 360 are in an entirely other league compared to the Wii, but I've played both, and the graphics dont make the magic in the games anymore special at all. <_<; |
