Default FFXII Question

Just a quick question...

This might be stupid but....there aren't job classes in FFXII, are there? And no one is better at using one weapon over another right?

For example, Balthier started out with a Gun, Vega i think it was. Is it a problem that i have him equipped with Ashura now, which is a Ninja Sword? Or Fran using a javelin instead of a bow? Just wondering...

Only in the international version of XII there are jobs that the characters can do but its a Japan only exclusive.

That doesnt exactly answer my question....what i want to know is if i could equip any weapon to any person i want. I mean sure with licenses i could do anything, but are their special priveliges or something that comes with using the weapon designed for that character?

No there isn't, any weapon equipped to any character will still have the same benefits as if it were to someone else, no privileges whatsoever although a weapon such as the Rod of the Faith are best suited with characters such as Penelo who has high MP as apposed to someone like Basch who doesn't have high MP usage.

Well, you can make job classes for yourself if you want, but it definately makes it harder. If you go to gamefaqs.com under FFXII, there is a walkthrough that sets up some job classes, but like I said, it makes the game harder if you are looking for a chalenge.

The guns in XII are very powerful.

Though the guns may seem to have low attack power, gun's ignore an enemy's defense, meaning the damage is calculated on a gun's attack power + the ammo and enemy's are not able to counter, parry or block gun attacks.

Also the calculation of damage made by guns uses a geometric function (soz if you don't know what that means) so basically an increase by 1 in the attack stat makes a massive difference in damage dealt when compared to say that of a greatsword.

I was kicking myself when I realised this for not figuring it out much earlier :p

Alright....so would that mean that Sirius would be better for Balthier than Ashura?

If it was just down to storyline alone without any side missions I think I completed the game in a little under the 100 hours mark. But with that being said everything else added to the main storyline took me well into the 300+ hour mark.

Yeah FFXII is the final fantasy that takes the longest to complete the core storyline. Even after your first run through, once you know where absolutely everything is and are at your most efficient you will take longer to get through FFXII than anhy other FF. That being said (while I haven't played through FFXI) FFX takes the longest for stat maxing and the completing of sidequests in my opinion.
