Default New Dragon Quest for Wii

Not a whole lot of info released about it. But Joystiq.com said that numerous reports have said Nintendo Power revealed that the new Dragon Quest game, "Dragon Quest Swords: The Masked Queen and the Tower of Mirrors" will be a launch game for the Wii.

    Discuss if you like.

Yeah monkeybutt has already informed us... Still, might be a good topic to discuss it fully.

I've known about this for a while... actually.

And I think Nintendo said at E3 that it would be a launch title, which is pretty damn sweet. Although, looking at this video, I'm not impressed. Supposedly, that's what it was at E3.

I will reserve judgement on the game until it's release though. If it does 'pick up', then the Wii will have the best launch line up. Ever.

You mean this thread has been done already? >.<

Sadly I havent been able to play any of the dragon quest games. Alls I know is that they are good and enjoyable. And I agree with BB, if Nintendo sticks with this and makes it a launch, than alot of people are gonna get the Wii.

Yes but according to the people I know from the "gaming" world, this DQ title isnt a number title as in Dragon Quest 9. I'm not sure if they are right, but if they are, and DQ9 would come to a different console...

... I think that other console will have more chance of winning some new buyers...

This new DQ is not a numbered title, as of yet. So far (last I checked) it is just a spin-off.

If DQ does make a numbered title for next gen, I think it will still be on Playstation, because of the success (compared to other DQs) of DQVIII.

But from the PlayStation 3 is showing, they are focusing on graphics more than anything. Dragon Quest VIII was cell shaded, so wouldnt it make sense to bring it to the Wii since they care about gameplay and not graphics>?

Not necessarily, the PS3 isn't only about graphics. It's also about their new controller and the Blu-Ray. Sony is trying to take on the world of DVD players and the next gen battle, so their not really focusing on one thing and if DQVIII brought in a lot of money for them on the PS2 then why wouldn't they put it on the PS3?

^Like I was thinking. There's enough reason to say it wont be on the PS3, but theres also enough reason to YES put it on the PS3, lol.

For example, the fact that the Wii game is a spinoff is a reason to believe that the numbered title will be on a different console. Only one can be the lucky winner then if you ask me. PS3...

The PS3 has more advantages than just graphics. It can store a lot more data, so the game can be a lot huger... you thought the worldmap of DQ8 was big? On the PS3 it can be 10x bigger, lol...

Also voices can now be all in one bluray disc. No more "Only the few main characters and NPCs talk" but EVERYONE talks... Yeah I believe PS3 will get the main title, but who cares... we're talking about the spinoff here, lol...

Anyways, we dont know anything about the title yet... not really... what could the story be about? About a masked queen who lives in a tower of mirrors? ;)

By 'them' and 'they' I would assume you mean Sony? Well Sony doesnt control Square-Enix so it would their decision. Personally I would like the next numbered title to be for the Wii because its more into the toon and anime feel which DQ would fit nice into. DQVIII was cel-shaded (think Wind Waker but better) so it would be logical that the next one would also be cel-shaded. If S-E brought DQ9 to Wii, they wouldnt need to put as much time into, graphics and can add in gameplay and story.

I would assume the Wii disc could atleast make it 2-3 times bigger. Anything else would be a waste, dont you think?

You wouldnt get annoyed? Cause I know I would. (If you have played Baten Kaitos for GC, you should know) I feel VA could be left to 'cut scenes' where it matters.

Edit: Crap, I didnt post anything on topic. Err is it just me or all that video really 3 secs?

Sony does hold a share of 10% of Square-Enix. I don't understand your logics at all.

For starters, I think people are really starting to throw games in corners. Cel-shaded? Nintendo only... Realistic? Sony only... Shooting style? Microsoft only...
Learn that consoles dont OWN a style...

Yes its very likely DQ9 will be cel-shaded, but how come now there wont be the need of working on the graphics?! Its not like the Wii has a standard style of graphics which is cel-shaded so you dont need to make it yourself, lol...

IMO, A real new style of gameplay can be achieved only with the Wii and the PS3, as it makes use of the motion-sensing controller. But the PS3 does have the camera-advantage, and right now developers dont make real use of it, but if they did games would be a LOT more fun...

Again, lets get back to topic..

Sony holding a 10% share of SquareEnix doesnt matter.

kthundercat:Sony is trying to take on the world of DVD players and the next gen battle, so their not really focusing on one thing and if DQVIII brought in a lot of money for them on the PS2 then why wouldn't they put it on the PS3?

square-enix:My counter statement, Well Sony doesnt control Square-Enix so it be would their decision (fixed). Even if Sony holds 10% of SE, they still cant force them to release their next title for PS3

My opinon. I never said Nintendo owned cel-shaded games but when I think of Nintendo, I see the catoony and anime style. Sure, consoles dont own a style but they tend to lean towards a certain gametype.

I dont believe I said that. I said
'If S-E brought DQ9 to Wii, they wouldnt need to put as much time into, graphics and can add in gameplay and story.'
which was a poor choice of words but never said they wont need to work on the graphics.

^From that 3 sec video, I have gathered that you swing the remote to attack with nothing special which I think looks boring.

That's not the full video, for some reason. It's a clip of what was shown at E3. Although, the 'full-length' one wasn't much longer. Just showed the 'monster' approaching and such.
