Default Final Fantasy X: Gone Solo!

Alright, this is an idea that VersionX brought to my attention. Basically you play through FFX normally, other than you only get to use one character when fighting, and only one. You choose this person at the very beginning of the game and follow the rules all the way though, even if it means waiting a while for the person to join your party. It probably sounds hard, and it will be...but lots of fun, especially if you know the game well enough.

Okay, in this thread, you can ask for help, post some tips for other people, or just generally talk about the experiences you have while doing this.

So far, the people participating are:

Ok.. I started a thread on this a while ago, but I really couldn't take it too seriously. But since a lot of us are on Summer Vacation now, well, let's go. \o/

These rules are from the Lulu only - with some edits to suit everyone.

- You are only allowed to use the character you chose.
- You can activate Sphere Grid Nodes ONLY for the character you chose. [This means no switching grids when your characters is finished. Although you ARE allowed to use tele spheres - aslong as you tele straight back after activating a sphere. E.G. Learning Steal and Use is almost a must.]
- Other active party members have to try to escape in a battle immediately. If
they don't succeed; you are lucky and they have to try it again next turn.
- In most boss-battles, your characters cannot escape. Have them change
weapons constantly. You are not allowed to defend with them cause this will
reduce any physical damage. They are not allowed to kill themselves. You don't
have to kill them with your character, but you are allowed to.
- Don't revive fallen party members
- You can customize any Weapon/Armor for your character.
- You are allowed to equip Armors/Weapons for other party members. You are NOT
allowed to customize new Armors/Weapons (such as Evade and Counter after
visiting Bikanel) for other party members
- You are allowed to make other characters join the party because of their
Weapon/Armors or stats (such as Auron of high HP or Rikku of quite high
Agility. Or Yuna on Djose Highroad with Stoneproof)
- You are not allowed to switch in party members with a Sensor-weapon equiped,
so that you can check HP and elemental weaknesses.
- In battles where your character does not participate, you are allowed to use any
abilities/overdrives for other Party Members
- Keep backtracking in anyones elses grid to a minimized amount. In this
challenge, you only *really* need to have learned Steal and Use. Certain bosses are impossible without.
- Don't dodge lighting in your first visit in the Thunder Plains, the items
you receive are too powerful and will make the challenge too easy.

There we go.. It seems hard, but this is very much achievable with any character. Some harder than others.

I have chosen Kimahri. You're allowed to chose him aswell, pick anyone you like.

My, that sounds very hard. I might do that, but I just started a new game of X a few days ago. I played all dau Friday & Saturday(my parents were gone) & A few hours mon- today. Im currently at Mt Gagazet, jst defeated Biran & Yenke.
But on this file Im going to make it perfect. As in everyone learns al thier abilaties(even the usless one such as reflex & luck), Get all waepons, get al Aeons(sinch), & have Wakka learn alll his overdrives.
PS: What are the requierments for Wakka to learn Status, Attack, & Auroch reels? I know you have to play Blitzball (yuck!). & how many times must I play for the woman at the bar in Luca to give me World Champion?

I hope you join, it'll be lots of fun.

It all depends really, I've had as few as 5 wins, and got it, and as many as 50 and got it. A good trick to get the Reels is to just play until one appears in the tourny, win it, then reset the Blitzball. Then keep reseting it until the next one appears in the Season, win it, then reset again. That's how I did it, and I got all of Wakka's stuff in less than a day's work.

Yuna was going to be one of my choice, now I've narrowed it down to two. Thanks for the help Monkey. And I guess you could start when you want, I'm starting tomorrow.

Well, you can put movement to auto, but that will only make it worse. A good tip is if you win the face off thing, swim towards Tidus' guy (make sure Tidus knows Jecht Shot) then swim away once he start following you. Pass to Tidus. Have Tidus swim towards the net, don't mind other defenders. Once you are right there, shoot using the Jecht Shot, it takes out two defenders. Once you get a lead, get the ball back and swim into your net, the other team players will swim away to their starting positions until you move.

Good players to get are: Brother (Airship pilot), Wedge (Luca Stadium, main gate) and Zalitz (Luca theatre). Brother = midfielder. Wedge = other forward. Zalitz = keeper. That should be a good team.

So, Blue Mage, are you going to play with us? It's gonna be fun, and pretty challenging, just the way all games should be!

Okay, Lulu is probably one of the best ones because he magic is so poweful. And this will probably take most of the summer to do, because of the degree of difficulty. Well, for some it might take longer, for some less. So whenever you finish, just come and join us.

Nope. :p {Mornin' Everyone}

Not switching sphere grids makes it sound nigh on impossible, but it isn't. The game *is* completable with just one character, with the right customization of weapons and armour, and the right use of extra spheres.

I'm gonna start playing in a little while. I'll try and mark down things you should definately get, and what Cloysters you should work that little bit harder on for the Destruction Reward etc.

BB mentioned this idea to me yesterday, and although I didn't feel like hearing the Game Over music over and over again.. <.< I think I'm gonna give it a try. However, there *is* one tiny glitch to the idea. In the beginning of the game, you'll only get to play with Tidus. The underwater areas, which occupy quite a large section of the game, can only be played with Tidus, Wakka and Rikku. And there is a part where you can only use Yuna for a while. I don't know how many problems this will cause, but you can't advance in the game if you haven't at least leveled up Yuna and one of the other three (Tidus, Wakka & Rikku).

Any suggestions ? If I missed something, lemme know. I'm still debating over which character to use, so I'll let that know later on.

This is pretty easy, or, as far as the Calm Lands it is anyway. And after that it's only Kimahris solo fight and the Anima Temple monster, if you're using Yuna.

As for battles before Calm Lands, you just need the correct equipment. No need to level up at all, which is pretty cool.

One note already;- {When playing Blitzball at Luca, you *HAVE* to pick up the Sonic Steel for Tidus, as to survive the underwater fight at the Moonflow.}

Oh no!! Yucky bah! Lol...

But seriously, this is not fun! You realise how slow the game will be? You will have to wait a looooooooong time for every character to start attacking and it's almost impossible to kill a Boss...

Hell, Im sure that after you beat the game 50% you'll throw it away...
