| ~Ichiban~ | ![]() In Robocop, the tragedy inflicted upon Alex Murphy was reversed with crazy technology developed by a corporation with their fingers on the pulse of innovation. NeuroSky (probably smaller than OCP and not looking to buy an entire city, but still in the "now") is the proud developer of a device called the Mindset. Essentially, the machine can read and react to the user’s brainwaves when attached. What is the natural application of such a device? A Square Enix developed game, of course. Gamasutra is reporting that Square Enix is set to announce a game that will utilize NeuroSky’s creepy technology. It will come in the form of a demo, designed to show what developers can do with a short amount of time with the headphone-shaped brainwave detection device. The headset will recognize relaxation and concentration and replicate that information into a game. Basically, Mindset will make the user Robocop – minus that whole armor and cybernetics thing. Actually, it won't make users like Robocop. I just happen to like his movie too much. More Serious Article Below ![]() Wearable bio-sensors manufacturer NeuroSky intends to exhibit a brainwave-controlled video game, which was co-developed with Square Enix (Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest), on October 8 - 9 at the upcoming Tokyo Game Show. The technical demonstration operates in conjunction with PCs and NeuroSky's MindSet, a commercial headset capable of interfacing to a variety of gaming platforms, including PC, console, and mobile. MindSet's design resembles a pair of headphones, with a single electrode contacting the user's forehead while reading the player's brainwave information, or EEG data. The headset registers the current state of relaxation or concentration of players, allowing them to perform actions within the game. Founded in 2004 and headquartered in San Jose, CA, NeurSky develops bio-sensor and signal processing technology specifically designed for end-use in the consumer market. Its products are targeted at various markets markets, such as consumer electronics, health & wellness, education & training, transportation, market research, and others. “At Square Enix, we are actively involved in developing a variety of gaming interfaces," eays Square Enix producer Ryutaro Ichimura. "I am thrilled to have this opportunity to work with NeuroSky, and apply their advanced sensor technology in this brain-wave controlled game demonstration. Although the main purpose of the demo is to test the results of our short development period, I hope it also unlocks new potentials in gaming." |

Rep Power: 7 ![]() Currently playing: Tekken 6 Level: 14 EXP: | Its interesting to try but, you know, I probably wont get very into using something like this. If it senses the difference on relaxation and concentration then certain people would have an advantage, huh? Some others would have suck down Ritalin before every game. |
