So it's just because VII sold lots and because Kitase "thinks" that the characters have so much more to offer than the other games. Any FF can be continued if you really want it to be, VII was just chosen because they knew it would sell due to the faggoty emotional attachment people have for it but I do love CC.
Actually there was already a project being done by CG Works that was based on FFVII. After Square noticed how well FFX-2 did (FFVII didnt have the first sequel), they bought the rights from CG Works and went on to develop it into Advent Children. Kitase and other Square staff admitted that FFVII was their favorite FF that they had worked on.

Oh, sorry, it was Visual Works, not CGW.

The following is an extract from the interview. We have included the questions relating to FFVII:AC only. The full interview can be found on GameSpot.

------

DPM: Why was a movie sequel to Final Fantasy VII decided for development, and when was it decided?
TN: About a year back, Visual Works (a company that has developed CG movies for Square) picked FFVII as the theme for a presentation that they were going to create. Our research and development department worked with them on its launch, and I joined the crew after producer Kitase-san called me. It's going to be released as a sequel, but it was planned to just be a visual presentation in the beginning.

DPM: Why is Advent Children a movie instead of a game? Are there any differences between making a game and making a full movie?
TN: First of all, we started off from the project that Visual Works was handling, but they can't make a game on their own. We tried to see if we could make it into a game, but it wasn't possible due to a number of factors. As a result, we decided to stick with the original plan and work on it as a movie production. The development isn't too different from the way we make movies that get used in our games, but our schedule is a bit tight. We need to keep the cost down since it's not a game, but [we still need to] maintain high quality.
It goes on but this is basically all thats important right now.

Advent Children.net - Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

As for FFVII being Square staff's favorite FF that they worked with. It was mentioned in the interview on the AC DVD disc 2.

Oh okay , thanks and yeah I know they like VII most it's kind of obvious.

But from what I read Nomu was only referring to [hopefully] making of a game with VW, after said game couldn't be made they decided to go with the original idea of making the presentation (AC) and during said time Kitase felt AC was not enough and the team came up with more. To my knowledge Nomura only knew of BC and AC at the time though.

Kitase: The idea began with AC [Advent Children], which has become the "sequel" of the original story of VII. But one title was not enough to cover the entire world of VII, so around the same time that AC started as a project, the team came up with the ideas of BC [Before Crisis] and DC [Dirge of Cerberus] in order to support the world.
S-E let Kitase further expand VII for the sake of providing "well-known properties on several platforms, allowing exposure of the products to as wide an audience as possible" making it the first part of the content ploy.

From what I see the job done with VW was only meant to be what it was a presentation of FFVII, not a compilation. I wouldn't say it didn't help but it doesn't seem like it's the reason behind everything, it seems like the idea spouted from the project not being enough for Kitase's tastes. Even if AC was never done Kitase still seemed sent on doing more than just one title.

What are we even talking anymore?

It'd be nice to see a remake of VII. Too bad it will take so long.

I guess you're right. But if it were not for VW choosing FFVII for the presentation, there wouldnt truely be a compilation. AC was announced when, in 2004, I think. Thats 7 years after FFVII's development. Since then fans have been asking why there were so many unanswered questions, and why it ended that way. S-E had 7 years to answer it but they didnt. It's not that they didnt want to make a sequel to a FF (they did FFX-2), they just chose not to answer any of those questions on FFVII...until VW decided to do something about it.

I seriously dont know what we're talking about or why it matters.

Default Endless Crisis?

Last year, I heard something about an "Endless Crisis" at the same time Crisis Core and Before Crisis was announced. Is such a thing true? I don't personally care, I don't play FFVII, but I just want to know.

Endless Crisis: Final Fantasy VII is supposedly a remake of the original FFVII. There was a lot of buzz about it at TGS 07 -- I'm not sure what happened to the rumor. Some say it's legit, but I haven't seen any confirmation.

It was an April Fools' Joke purported by a Final Fantasy news website ( adventchildren.net ). While Square-Enix does imply that there may be another title in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII game, this is definetly not it. Still, this rumor is as old as the Final Fantasy VII PS3 remake.

With respect to the topic creator, I'm going to close the thread, mainly to prevent any disinformation that may lead to future sadness and broken expectations. ;3

For further discussion about the future of the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII, you can post here: http://forums.khinsider.com/square-e...vii-title.html

Will merge this into that thread in a few hours.
