I've gotten every single ultimate weapon except for the Excalibur 2 which you have to make it through Memoria and finish the game within a certain time.

Getting Excalibur 2 is possible, but we must not do any side quest, watch none side event, never steal the boss, not taking care of the skills, moogles, etc etc. That's not even funny to play in those condition, I never even tried to do it.

As for the game itself, great game, I find the story very good even if the "true" final boss was the only disappointment I really had.

The time limit for getting Excalibur II is actually twelve hours.

It's even possible to get a perfect game file under these conditions as well; it's all a matter of planning out what you need to do before you start playing so that you don't dilly-dally trying to figure out to do while the clock ticks. It's one of my best Final Fantasy achievements. :3

12 hours
it's not impossible
you just have to not level up and skip fmvs by opening the ps2 disc tray
I played Final Fantasy IX on my PS3 and it looks stunning the FMV's
Necron was a dissapointment
Well most of the time some final bosses in the final fantasy series are pushovers
but in the original games like I,II,III,IV, and so on were very hard and very annoying!
Zeromus, Chaos, The Cloud of Darkness are the biggest pain in the arses
Ultima as well in FFT

Yeah really all you need to do is use Esuna or a Remedy and counter the mini status by casting mini again on the party member that has it and that's about all you need to do.

Hm if you dont level up my friend then your hardly goin to progress. Your going to get beat by enemies left right and centre. 12 hours is too little time to get to disc 4.

I didn't really take any concern into getting the Excalibur 2 as long as I have the Ragnarok then I'm satisfied with Steiner and what he's capable of.

yeah the excalibur 2 just has a few more abilities but it is not that necessary
especially since its not all full power when you obtain it.

The basic stats for the Excalibur 2:

Attack:108

Add Stat: None

Abilities: Minus Strike, Climhazzard, and Stock Break

Also I found this guide here:Final Fantasy IX / 9 / FF9 - Walkthrough / Excalibur 2 - Disc 1

It basically explains what the usual time you should take to finish each of the different discs, in which I took about 5 hours just to complete the first disc alone basically doing training session after training session and the Hot and Cold sidequest.

Yeah
Final Fantasy IX was a mighty good game
it has enough room for a sequel
and it was so underrated
overlooked by its predecessor FFVII
that is so not fair
Final Fantasy IX had better characters
better battles
but since VII is so adored by fans
square milks it
shame on you square

Hm it was indeed a very very good game and i do agree that it was underrated a bit.
Well people would compare games to their predeccesors, its common, but i do feel this game deserved a lot more credit. It was a great game. I did still like 7 and 8 more..
