I disagree.

There are a couple of things that were important in FFVIII that it could revolve around.

1. Laguna's story. Not many FFVIII players know that he is in fact "highlight to read->"Squall's father and Raine being Squall's mother. Nor his whole role in the Esthar war, for example. It was all hinted at in the game, but never fully shown.

2. Rinoa = Ultimecia theory. Even though many sources claim it's not true, and even 'said' Squaresoft comments on the case that it is incorrect, it was and still is one of the most exciting video game story rumours in history.

3. The Guardain Forces. Although this may sound lame, in FFVIII, GFs were important. Unfortunately, Nojima got lazy and ruined the story behind GFs in the middle of the game. Although ruining depends on the way you look at it. The information we were given about the GFs story was lame, but if they'd work it out more properly, it could actually make that giant plot hole make sense.

4. The childhoods. Every character in the game had their own childhood, and in the story of the game, it was of great importance. Rinoa having to live her whole life with her father, when her mother Julia dies when she's 5 years old. Zell living with his foster parents, even though he does not know this. Selphie growing up in Trabia and her involvement with GFs. Seifer, Squall and Quistis growing up in Balamb Garden. Irvine growing up in Galbadia Garden.
All these stories in for example a movie could shed some light on the characters more.

Look at it this way. FFVII did not have much to go about either, aside from Zack. Hell, they made up a whole new character Genesis, that, being left out, would not have changed FFVII much actually. Meaning Square can think up of anything to milk a game.

Though I do not want Square to do this, of course. As I said, those 4 game/movie ideas could work.

Yet, I, and many other fans, would LOVE a remake. Most of all, actually.

Its so crazy FF VIII cause i can relate to it sooo much.... like i was feelin' Squall so much lo.... it was so me. lol and what made the game like just get me is when you know the part where you had to get a band together and set Squall up with Rinoa? Well omg.. it was actually my perfect setting i've always had with a girl... like a nice night by the water with soft jazz playing in the background. I'd just love to see a great recreation of this game on the technology that we have today. or something to that effect.... and sure as some ppl have already mentioned there is SOOO much that could be done with this game. =D

Yeah, I'd actually though much rather see a sequel than a prequel. Although a remake would be interesting (with better, real-time action gameplay), I want a FFVIII movie. Just picturing that world with a new story in a feature-length film created in graphics better than Advent Children excites me.

I've always liked movies better than games (mainly because we get action scenes).

Again, becoming the president is the only mystery laguna has left to him. Everything else has been said and done. Those who don't understand that secret about Laguna clearly don't read very well or intuitively. It's explained quite plainly.

Theory works out, but leaving it all up to interpretation is part of what makes it such an engaging theory. Would you really want them to say "Oh btw, it wasn't Rinoa, just some crazy witch we made up"... nah. Even still, is there enough to Ultimecia/is she important enough alone to make a whole game/short movie out of? Honestly I say no. I also don't think Advent Children was a good excuse to revisit the FF7 world, so that movie won't justify a reason for making it.

They had their story told, and they were explained. Would you really want to see Final Fantasy VIII: Rise of the Guardian Forces? They muddled with memoriez or whatnot as their price for using them. They were a game mechanic and were the only way to get stronger, thus you had to use them. They used that mechanic into the story which made it a neat little quirk, but that's really all they were/are.

I personally wouldn't want to see mini movies on characters growing up in basically the same situation, especially when they all basically discuss their living arrangements in game. I can't think of another FF game where you actually care about the characters' childhood... it's not the point of the game, the point of the game is what happens from when they all reconnect onwards. Everything else before that is just character development.

FFVII had a wide open ending. OMG big explosion, and then creditz roll. Then a secret little scene with mossy reactor. Really doesn't tell you what happened. Zack isn't the only thing, because there's Sephiroth too. In addition to Sephiroth there was Vincent. All three of those characters' histories matter and should have been told because they connect with what happens in the main story. I'm just sorry to say I don't see the same sort of open ended story for Square to make cash from. I mean if they went ahead and tried to make loose ends in FF8, they'd REALLY be stretching and selling out the game and it's fans moreso than Final Fantasy VII, which to some degree is open ended enough to accommodate it. Note that I didn't say that FF7 deserves the treatment it's been given, but it's received it nonetheless.

Agreed. I would love to see a remake of all PS1 Final Fantasy Games.

How DO you beat Omega Weapon anyway -- more specifically, how do you get it to appear? The last time I tried it, I was only able to open a warp hole where the piano is in Ultimecia's lair..

They should remake all the FF games to PS3 graphics, especially 1-9. After playing FFXII, going back to playing 7 and 8 made me cringe. Storyline matters a lot to me of course, but the main draw to games for me are excellent graphics and fun gameplay. I loved the junctioning system for FFVIII, it was a very simple system for you to use to customize your character beyond merely leveling up or making weapons. Also, the GFs learning abilities for you to junction is an awesome idea. Some are suited for defense, some are suited for attack, some for support. The GFs themselves are characters, more or less. (Tonberry, even though he sucks, remains my all-time favorite summon IN THE WORLD)

*Tonberry walks slowly to the enemy, causing them to sweatdrop. He approaches, and them a speech bubble appears over his head.*

"DOINK!"

Sophia u have to get ur main party to be at the green circle by the water founatain in front of the place where Omega is then get ur other party at the entrance to go up to stairs then make a right & keep going til u get to a place with another green circle. Now do u see that string hanging down? Pull that to ring the bell now u have 1 min to get to Omega. Switch to ur main party & go threw the doors to the where the organ is & u will see him waiting.

I didn't really have a tough time with Omega my party consisted of Squall, Rinoa, and Selphie. I started off by casting Meltdown or summoning Doomtrain to weaken its defenses.

But mainly after that I relied on the limit breaks Squall and Rinoa were the main attackers since Squall had the Lionheart and Rinoa had the Wishing Star limit break, and Selphie was mainly there for her Full-Cure limit break.

But I actually got lucky a few times where Rinoa used the Invisible Moon limit break which really made the rest of the battle for awhile until the effect wore off alot easier.

My Squall got LionHeart 3 tmes in a row once. I used Zell & Rinoa for healing & Squall did all the work. I almost got a game over a few times like when Omega used Medigo Flame or Terra Break.

I might be alone in this, but I'd want a movie sequel as opposed to an actual game. Sure, they'd have to come up with a plausible storyline they could continue with, but I can't see them having a hard time with that.

I'd love to hear them all talk, interact, fight, etc. in CG, and it would be mind-blowing.

You're not alone. I'm all for it, as I said earlier. Yes, it would definitely be mind-blowing, especially if it hits the big screen. I would love the summary to have that begining scene with Squall and Seifer fighting, but obviously in movie graphics.

Ah, my bad. I must have overlooked that post...

Yeah, I also agree! The added bonus of including flashbacks to the original game (recreating the best moments, like the fight you mentioned) along with the new story would give it more depth as well. I just really wish the fans could get together and corner them for a movie. ._.
