So it's pretty much confirmed that there's another KH game to go before KH3.

Nomura said he can't say what it is yet. "Yet" as in they're already in the process of making this non-KH3 game. It's just like when he said that the next game in the series wouldn't be KH3 and announced a "new project."

But... it's not a side game? It's more "official"?
What could that be?
Most of the bases are covered on the games' storylines.

BbS, KH1, CoM, Days, KH2, coded.

The only areas of the storyline that haven't been depicted are before BbS, between BbS and KH1, and after coded.

A prequel to BbS is a big no. BbS IS the prequel, we don't need another.
Between BbS and KH1, not much happened, and we have the Ansem Reports anyway.
And I figured after coded would be saved for KH3.

Still, I guess I could see a procession of coded, then another KH game, and then KH3.
But how can this game be official rather than a side story if it's not the next numbered installment?

There's always the potential of a KH1/KH2 remake for the Wii/PS3 I guess. Yet... it sounds like he's talking about a new game.

Now, come to think of it...

Presently there are 4 main untold stories to consider. "The period of the King's absence", "The period of Riku's absence", "Roxas' time in Organization XIII" and "Xehanort's past". In this case, The story of "The period of the King's absence" is set in the realm of darkness. I am examining a way to tell these 4 stories so I might be able to find a way to tell them soon.

"Roxas' time in Organization XIII" = Days
"Xehanort's past" = BbS
"The period of the King's absence" = coded
"The period of Riku's absence" = coded (?)

Now hold up on that last one. We know Nomura says concerning coded that "questions will be answered too, such as where the King had gone, and also what Riku has been doing."
So we'd assume that this is what he meant by the period of the King's and Riku's absence.

But what if he meant the period of Riku's absence in KH2?
Think about it.
We only got to truly see him at the end (beside the cameo in Land of the Dragons). Even Mickey had more screen time.

So, maybe this next game is a "Reverse Rebirth" for KH2. I personally think it would be a lame idea, though we'd probably get the answer to how he gets that second keyblade.

I think it sounds rather lame, too. I mean, what would the point of the story be? But, I suppose it could be interesting if Riku did what he did in LoD in other worlds, too. Like, talking to the world leaders and stuff.

Actually, if you re-read, Nomura said something about the time between BBS and Kh1, I hope that's it. So much happened in the past. BBS focuses on other things. But there are so many other mysteries. Even about Xehanort and Kairi ect.

It would be similar to Days, though, as in we know how the story ultimately ends.

I don't see much happening though. Where's the climax? The antagonist? It would kinda suck if the whole game was just "can't let sora see me"

It's not really Nomura that refers to it so much as it is implied in the question itself.

But I can't see how that would work. Who would we be? What would we be doing?
I guess there's plenty of room (ten years) to fit something in there besides the apprentices and whatnot, but... I don't know.

...There might be a cliffhanger at the end of Birth by Sleep that a game could be based on. Not that we know what that could be yet...It wolud have to be a pretty strong plot point.

A mini game like scenario with everyone as little kids!

I dont think it would be that lame.
The whole gap in the storyline involving DiZ, Riku and Nami was one of the things that bugged me the most about KH2.
The novels had put some light on the situation, but I think it would be nice to see it in full.
Things like the Riku/Xemnas confrontation would definitely be scenes I'd like to see in-game.

Though, I can't see there being enough material to warrant a game for that, or how that would seem more "official" than a side-story.

I would understand had the games gone in order according to timeperiod from BBS being the first to KH: Coded being the last one made so it wouldn't seem like they're pulling out more bull than what are we already being served with.

Can't risk pissing off fangirls and NOT have him in KHIII. He'll get a cameo...hell he might be a party member.

Anywho a game concerning Riku's time during II might be interesting as Audo had told us, the full story behind DiZ/Riku/Namine. We might get an Awakening late in said hypothetical game.
