Default Magic Alteration

This is a thread to let everyone know that the offensive magics effects have been changed. Now you are able to use whichever element you like that will fit your style of fighting. Here is a list of all of the changes that have been made:
  • Each element is now unique
  • MP cost stays the same as the spell levels
  • Munny price has gone up for the Ra's slightly
  • Ra Enchantments cost different amounts depending on which spell you're enchanting into a weapon
  • Level Cap for 1st Level Spells is now 15, Second Level Spells is 20

The new effect list is going to be here:

Fire -> Low MP Cost - Low Damage - High Accuracy
Blizzard -> Medium MP Cost - Medium Damage and Cuts SPD - Medium Accuracy
Thunder -> Medium-High MP Cost - Extreme Damage - Has a miss chance at max level

Aero -> High MP Cost - Moderate Damage over 2 turns - Medium Accuracy
Quake -> High MP Cost - High Damage - Medium Accuracy
Water -> High MP Cost - Medium Damage to HP and MP - Medium Accuracy


As of right now there are no plans to change Dark and Dia around, but they may get toyed with slightly if the response to these elemental changes are positive. Please discuss here how you feel each of these elements work, and share your ideas with how you feel they should effect stats if you aren't pleased.

errmm, are all the spells going to have a damage-cap(aero doing 65, water doing 70 and 30)?

this is great, the magics are stronger now, and it will add some fun to battles. BTW, Is fire-fira going to do damage to other stats as water and bliizard do?

All spells have a damage cap besides Thunder. Aero's damage cap is much lower than the others, but that is because it hits twice. Two hits of its cap are about on par with the other magics... well besides Quake...

Fire's main purpose is to be a cheap magic to cast that does okay damage. It won't be effecting multiple stats. The only reason Water and Blizzard effect other stats is because we needed to find a way that they would be effective where people would WANT to use them over something immensely strong like Quake and Thunder. Draining MP and cutting speed a little is, in my opinion, a great way to make them always useful.

Fire is useful because it is easy to level up and does an okay amount of damage for a very low MP cost.

I'd like to ask if 'high damage' is supposed to be more or less than 'extreme damage' becasue in the scan, it says that at lvl 1 quake does 20 damage, while thunder can only do 15, meaning that quake should take more off than thunder, but thunder's accuracy and description of being 'extreme' tend to suggest it should be able to do more damage.

Sorry if this is a stupid question or something, but I'd like to clear this up before training my selected arts. Thanks!

All spells have a max amount of damage they can do. Once they hit that limit, they can not possibly do more damage. Thunder however has no max damage limit. It can do endless amounts of damage.

No. Buff magics will not be changed into a static MP cost. This way, offensive magics can be used without fear, but you'll still have to be afraid of using Buff magics too much, because offensive magic is usually less useful then most other buff magics.

In adding to what D has said, Buff magics are very important not only to mages, but people who enjoy beasting baddies with strength. A good solid buff will do wonders for any player, while a physical attacking player will not really want to use offensive magics. If you wish to be a mage, you don't necessarily HAVE to buff. You do, however, need a way to attack your opponent that doesn't rely on having uber pwn weaponry. Cheap MP cost that remains constant is a great remedy to this.

^But I didn't say low MP costs, if you want let them cost as much as thundara, I just want static so I don't have to change my stats every once in a while just to be able to cast them

.-. Level the buff spells to max level, then they have a static cost. It's kinda sorta simple...

Dark now cuts Strength, and Dia can cut Magic. This should add some nice variety to your battles. This thread will be sent to the trash bin sometime next week. Kthx.
