Colloseum RP...?

Essentially, the idea is that an incredibly powerful interdimensional being who simply calls himself 'The Overlord' has control of a smallish pocket dimension simply called 'The Overlord's Realm'. At the heart of it rests 'The Colloseum' a place where the Overlord captures heroes from across the infinate universes to pit them in battle against one another.
I have some of the details in mind, but that's the gist of it. Um, basically people could either use their own OR unoriginal characters from various franchises as characters, all competing in the 'Omniverse Championship'...
Um, but basically, would anyone actually WANT to join this? If they did, I could set up a new, more detailed thread in the 'Sign-up & OOC' section... with, like, character templates and rules, and greater plot details...?

Okay sure, but that doesn't seem to give any room for story, just battle after battle after battle.

Oh, I assure you there IS plot, it's just that I'm just wondering if anyone would want to ACTUALLY to RP this if it had a reasonably goodish plotline...

Right then...

THE PLOT:
Resting within the void (the nothingness between dimensions) is a world. Well, a universe more like... a tiny one. A 'pocket dimension', sort of, uh, a 'restricted universe'... anyway, within this world live 'The Common Folk', a race of shortish humanoid creatures with pointy ears.
This world, 'The OverLord's Realm'. Why is it called that? Because it's creator and ruler is known simply as 'The OverLord'... a mysterious being of incredible power. Now, these people live in a single mighty city, called, 'Haven' that has been thriving and powerful, peaceful, really, for the last 9,999 years. The people are kept happy, it seems, because they have constant entertainment...? From what...? Well, at the heart of their city is 'The Colloseum', a massive building that serves as the Common Folks centre of entertainment, but also of administration, being the physical residence of 'The OverLord' as well...
Every year 'The OverLord' uses his powers to indirectly affect the other universes (all infinity of them), sending out invitations to those he deems worthy of taking part in the Colloseum's annual championship, a massive (and I mean literally, MASSIVE) tournament called 'The Omniverse Games', kind of like a super, multiversal version of the Olympics (mixed with the gladitorial battles of ancient Rome).
Those who don't want to partake don't have to, but if they want to, they just have to go to the location mentioned on their particular message (the method of giving it out is different in each universe... in some it might be a neat, hand-written letter. In others, an e-mail or text message. And in yet others, a mysterious stranger will show up and give it verbally.) to agree, and then, that's it!

Anyway, the games are loved by all of the Common Folk, from young children playing in the streets to Old Women, knitting by the fire. From the heart of Haven to the outer settlements, everyone loves the games. However, on the 10,000 anniversary of the world (and by extension, the games) something... bad, is happening. Some of the contestants have been attacked, KILLED even before they've had a chance to answer/reply to the invitation they recieved. The fiends that lurk in parts of the outerlands have become more aggressive, and 'The OverLord' has not been seen personally by any of 'The Common Folk' in several months...
But alas, the games must still go on... let one and all gather, let the games BEGIN!

(Anyway, I've not really got loads of time left, but hopefully that should be sufficent plot details...? I have a template all ready and rules in mind, but, um, yeah... what do ya all think...?!)

That's a stupidly long amount of time, IMO.

The civilisation would be ridiculously advanced, unimaginably so, and if it was set in this universe, then said universe would have already begun its decent into total decay and emptiness.
