You can either use the magnetic lasso too, eraser, or click and drag it on the canvas.

The way I understand it, is that each image is a frame. So if you're importing a folder that has five image files, you'll get five frames. From there, you can change the order of the frames, increase/decrease delay, and things and that nature.

Are you having a layering issue?

Have you tried making a new layer, and then moving it above or below the other layers (images) until you get it how you want it?
