Default Scanlines tutorial (PS) (56Kers beware)

How to add scanlines to your sigs/ images.

Step 1: open your image. It should have a border or it won't look right.
I'm going to use this image for the tutorial:

step 2: open a new transparent document, size 2 pixels wide, 1 pixel height.

Step 3: Zoom in to 1600% or as far as you can

step 4: use the pencil tool with a colour of your choice (I'll be using black for the example) to colour one pixel in the document. It should look like this:

Step 5: Now go to Edit> Define pattern. Name the pattern then click okay.

step 6: now go to the image you want scanlines on. Go to Layer> New Fill Layer> Pattern. When asked to choose a pattern, select the scanlines pattern you made and click okay. Your image should now have scanlines. Finish it off by setting the layer mode to overlay and lowering the transparency. Here is my example with overlayed scanlines and 50% transparency:

other styles of scanlines
Horizontal scanlines:
Do the same as above, but instead of a width of 2 and height of 1, use a width of 1 and a height of 2, and colour the top or bottom pixel.

example:

diagonal: width 3 pixels height 3 pixels. Colour 2 adjacent corners, i.e. bottom left and top right or top left and bottom right, and the center pixel.

grid: for a grid style, use a square image for the pattern, minimum size 3pixels wide/ 3 pixels height. Colour the pixels to make a + shape.

You can experiment with different sizes or thicknesses to get the result you want.

*editted: some examples given, diagonal size error corrected

uh, right, I'll put up a few more examples soon. I thought there was something missing but I was in a bit of a hurry. By the way, what's the name of the font in your BHK/DWU sig? (better take it to PM)
