Full Abstarct Grunge Signature

This is my first try at making a tutorial so let's hope this works! *crosses fingers* Let's get started!

Level: Easy/Medium

1. Open up a blank file in Photoshop. I'm going to use a 500x100 image, my normal signature size. Your background should be transparentt!

2. Reset the colors by pressing D. Your foreground color should be black while your background should be white. Go to Filter, Render, Clouds and get some cloud!

3. Next, go to Filter, Sketch, Water Paper. Leave the settings at defualt, which are 15, 60, and 80.

4. Time for the abstarct part! For this, you'll need abstarct brushes. The ones I'm using are from GreyCobra. (The link is here for some good brushes) If you don't like those, search on Google! There are probably a lot of brushes out there that are abstract ones!

5. Create a new layer above the first layer. It doesn't need to be named anything, just leave it as "Layer 2". Change the blending mode to "Soft Light". Alright, you can pick which one you'd rather do on this part. You could either duplicate the layer you're on now about 2 or 3 more times or just create a new one for each layer with the same blending mode! Now, on Layer 2, start using one of your brushes and paint over the picture using black. Do the same with two or three more layers but use different brushes on each layer! Next, press X to switch your colors. The foreground should be white, while the background should be black. Choose a brush, and paint over the canvas with white! It would be a good idea to merge all the layers except for the bottom layer but that's your choice.

6. Next, get a picture. For example, use a Sora picture! Next, get out your eraser tool and change the opacity to about 50%. Find the right place for your picture and start erasing around the character you want on your sig. After that, you can desaturate it, colorize it, add text, and whatever else you want to add!

That's my result. Feel free to add text brushes on the part where you paint with white! Also, I'd like to see everyone's results so feel free to post them! ;)

i had some trouble with the erase thing. my mother always said i wasn't cordinated. *sigh* thanks though. i kinda rushed on this one.i didn't even use any brushes. i'll get better though hopefully.

Don't worry! You'll get better! ^_^ I think my first graphic looked like that, clouds in the background, I slapped on some text, and a picture of Sora!

But I think the real first graphic I did was this one....

One question? Yes I'm a nOOb (you have no idea how hard it is for me to say that) and I'd like to ask how you get the picture into the signature.

I 'really' suck at this stuff. Not to mention I basicly just taught myself the best I could. I experimented and my first design/thingy ever 'was' this one...


EDIT: I got bored and did what you said, played around with it, and it came out as this...
