The final result - tag feels as if its missing something.
In addition with the original 'bubble like' background having no play in that final result as well.

You might as well have just said that you slapped the render on top of the texture with a couple of settings.
The tutorial is nice and direct, but some of the earlier elements you've mentioned don't coordinate with the rest of it down the line since the newer stuff makes it look like it was never there in the first place.

I'll tell my cousin to follow this, however.
