1:Find/Save your image.
2:Open it up in GIMP
3:Go to Layers, then Transparency, then Add Alpha Channel.
4:(If the background is 1 color, then do the next step.) Click the 'Free Lasso Tool' and Click and Drag the lasso around the image, cutting out most of the background. Once its selected, press Ctrl-I then the Delete Key to delete everything outside the picture. This is where it gets Tedious. Now click the 'Magnify' Tool. Click it until the image is big enough that you can see the pixels. Now get the Lasso Tool, and start to make circles with the background inside it, and press delete to delete what's selected. Continue to do this until you have just the image you want.
5:(If the Background is multiple colors, then do the previous step.)Choose the 'Fuzzy Select' Tool, and click the Background, then press Delete. You should now have a Transparent background with the Image you want to use as a Render.
5:Now, save as a PNG*, because that is one of the only image types that fits into practically everything you could imagine.
And thats how you make a Render using GIMP. If I left anything out, or you have a question, let me know!
*=Thanks to Tenacious GFX for catching me on this!

Printing is impossible to do with .png files (not home printers)
Usually, designers just showcase work as .png files because the quality is lossless and you won't have artifacting after your image has been saved and rehosted several times, like with .jpg filetypes.
Secondly, you aren't rendering anything. You're just extracting an image from it's background. This is just called "cutting." | |

When you save the cut image, it's called a Render.
