| ♥ | hey guys lets get our eightfold path on! yeah! buddhist concepts: ~ karma
~the four noble truths~ . Ordinary life is full of suffering . This suffering is caused by our desire to satisfy ourselves . The way to end suffering is to end desire for selfish goals and to see others as extensions of ourselves . The way to end desire is to follow the Eightfold Path the eightfold path! woo! ♥ 1. Right view ~ We need to know the Four Noble Truths 2. Right intention ~ We need to decide what we really want. 3. Right speech ~ We must seek to speak truth and to speak well of others 4. Right action ~ The Buddha gave five precepts: "Do not kill. Do not steal. Do not lie. Do not be unchaste. Do not take drugs or drink alcohol." 5. Right livelihood ~ We must do work that uplifts our being 6. Right effort ~ The Buddha said "those who follow the Way might well follow the example of an ox that arches through the deep mud carrying a heavy load. he is tired, but his steady, forward-looking gaze will not relax until he comes out of the mud." 7. Right mindfulness ~ We must keep our minds in control of our senses: "all we are is the result of what we have thought." 8. Right concentration ~ We must meditate to see the world in a new way. so yes. :3 anyone here practice this? thoughts? connections to other religions? what do you all think of buddhism? |

| doesn't play well with others | Fuck Buddhism. Any philosophy that teaches people that suffering is inevitable and okay and that they should be content with abject poverty is evil as far as I'm concerned. Never mind all of the ridiculous ideas about reincarnation, karma, etc. Those don't even merit refutation. |

| Literally, Go Fuck Yourself | My friend is a Buddhist, and I think it is the stupidest thing ever. I am with Sam and say Fuck Buddhism. My friend pisses us all off at time with his Buddhist lingo. In texts message, and just regular conversations, he talks in that weird way, such as "If the winds change, then times will change." Or some stupid crap like that, I really don't see the point in any of it. The Karma thing as well, is nothing to live by, people do bad stuff all the time and never get punished. |

Rep Power: 1 ![]() Level: EXP: | To be honest, I think it's just a way of keeping people in poverty by causing them to not want to improve their lives. In the western world, people are born into consumerism and can't possibly practice true Buddhism because that would require a total rejection of their culture. Don't get me wrong, it has some nice ideas, but I don't have a romanticized view of the religion (or philosophy, the cafeteria version) like most people do. |

| Duke Millenium | Extra points to them for not starting holy wars, but it's mythology is not really that much different from other religions. Things like rebirth and karma are, like the soul, obviously untestable. In this sense, there's really nothing that says to me that this religion has something the others don't. |

| ♥ | an open mind is necessary when you come into the religious section. :| not all buddhists spout pretentious lines like that, vossler, and the way you're going about criticizing it could be seen as offensive. so bad people never get punished? you have to look at what you're defining as punishment. buddhism condones suffering? then why is it trying to end it? what are you defining as suffering? |

Buddhism teaches that suffering (poverty, etc.) is inevitable, and the way to end suffering is through complete selflessness (ultimately a continuation of the status quo). The followers are deeply poor while the temples are lined with gold. | ||

| doesn't play well with others | The sanctimonious, suburban white middle class westerners who call themselves Buddhists certainly do. Buddhism does not simply teach that bad people are punished, it teaches that everything wrong with our present lives is a reflection of what we did in these previous lives of ours for which there is no evidence. To be a Buddhist is to believe that reason Cinollex has Asperger Syndrome is because some former version of herself was totally fucked up, and that every problem in your own life is deserved because of who you supposedly once were. What respect does this religion deserve? I'll reiterate my original thesis: Fuck Buddhism and fuck any other belief system that would try to hold people accountable for things they never did. It condones detachment and contentment, which are two sides of the same horribly flawed coin in this case. It teaches the poor to be content with being poor, it teaches people to abandon their desires and goals in favor of a submissive, spartan existence. And we are only scratching the surface of how fucked up Buddhism is. |

| Banned | im honestly shocked how many people here hate it. >:P some people in my family are buddhist, and i think it's pretty cool. my immd. family is catholic though. oh wells. i pretty much grew up w/ buddhist ideals, just that we're catholic. lol. wowww.. although i don't like how people over use karma...it gets really cliche and annoying when people use the word in the wrong way and shit but w/e. the sad part is that i don't want to stop the cycle of rebirth for me...>~> i want to keep being reincarnated :DD lol. i don't really know people who seriously use that weird quote shit though. unless like me and my friends are joking about it and stuff. "grasshopper" and stuff xDD but that's mostly what us asians do, and some of our white friends i guess. haha filipinos don't do it though. from what iv seen. but in christianity, isn't it true that after a certain amount of time in heaven or hell, you get reborn or something? >~> idk much about that. but that's what i hear. |
