Everything is nothing according to Buddhism, so what does it matter?

If I want to be something, if I want to have significance, it matters quite a bit to me.

That's another question--what separates Buddhism from nihilism?

Buddhists believe existence can improve.

Only to that point of attaining nonexistence. I'm not really sure that invests existence at any level with meaning or significance.

He's still worshipped and idolized. Like all religions, different sects believe different things, regardless of what the original founder actually taught.

But things change, the "upheaval" inevitably becomes the new status quo.

I'm not sure what culture could really support "true Buddhism" in this sense.
Whereever there is poverty.

I would attribute this less to Buddhism's role as a 'pacifying religion' and more to its acquired role as a social power, which is inevitably concerned with the pacification of peoples. But Buddhism as a religion separate from the political power structure has stirred serious social changes, contrary to views of it as a religion keeping people content and subjugated.

Yes, but here we have already placed it on the edge of society, where material necessities begin to outweigh social considerations. My point is simply that society necessarily orients people toward this world we live in, a world that buddhism expressly rejects, and this will be a source of contention.

Kind to the standards at the time.

Kind in modern standards? Hell no. It's like calling Ataturk a great ruler when he was a dictator.
