| buried beneath the waves. | so my aunt is a teacher now in a catholic elementary school. she wanted to teach her kids about greek mythology, and their ideas of god and how the earth and its inhabitants were created. so she asked the principal if that would be alright, and he immediately said "no, that'll give them bad ideas and they'll start to question catholicism." so basically, i want your guys' opinion on whether or not its o.k. to keep kids in the dark regarding intelligent design and other creation theories out there. go. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() Level: EXP: | As long as religions are covered equally and not treated as science. I have no problem with them being taught. However, ID shouldn't be, it's not a proper representative of Christianity, more like a fundamentalist crackpot scheme. |

| Thus Spoke Meleagant | Hiding others religions isn't what is going to help them, it's even forbidding them access to the free will that is so important to Christian. |

Rep Power: 4 ![]() Level: 15 EXP: | I don't see the problem with it. I'm christian (Not catholic) but I've enjoyed reading Greek mythology. Most of the tales can be quite interesting. It's important to learn about other cultures and history. Plus whats wrong with questioning your religon (Ever though I highly doubt those stories would cause this)? |

| Sidekick | I thought religious education was compulsary? ...unless thats just the UK. either way, i think its wrong that they arnt allowed to learn about other religions. It teaches respect and understanding for other people and their cultures. They should be able to form their own opinions and ideas, not be forced to believe in one thing and one thing only. |

| Sidekick | I remember I almost got in trouble when I was in a private school for doing a report on Norse Mythology. I told the principle to piss off. |

| Silh been hit by a smooth Criminal | I can identify with what the principal is saying if we abandon the fact that religion is involved but instead look at something that is either right or wrong to teach kids We teach kids that its wrong to...steal for example yet we teach them lessons on how to steal, have them watch heist movies. etc. at an early age if you are supposed to still be figuring out beliefs then somethign that promotes something contrary to what you've learned makes you question what you think is right in the first place. In this case catholocism. Supposing these kids were maybe in middle school (basically more firm in where they stood) I don't think this would be as bad a deal. |
