Rep Power: 1 ![]() Level: EXP: | For all those atheists out there who don't like religion or the religious post why. I think religion and the religious are holding back society and what it can do. Most notable in Government and Science. How about you? |

Rep Power: 12 ![]() ![]() ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | I don't necessarily dislike religion as in the belief itself (since there are and have been good things with it), but I certainly don't like its incredible amount of obnoxious, bigoted followers who largely think that just because you don't wake up early in the morning on Sunday to go pay thanks to a invisible, faceless deity that you don't believe exists is unworthy of stepping on the same ground they do and that you'll lead to society's collapse. It's fine that you have your beliefs and set of principles, but you shouldn't think yourself so great that you feel the need that everyone else live that way. That is not to say that anyone who is irreligious is automatically innocent of the same crime, but that's another story. I don't believe religion need be destroyed, but the less amount of people who are willing to blow up abortion clinics in the name of it, the better. In summation: Quote:

Rep Power: 2 ![]() ![]() Currently playing: Bayonetta, Left 4 Dead 2 Level: 9 EXP: | I don't like that parents can indoctrinate children with their own beliefs - this applies to more than just religion of course, but terrifying kids with ideas of hell and eternal damnation can have demonstrable negative effects on the psyche. I don't like that parents likewise deny their children - minors who are unable to make decisions for themselves - proper medical care based on religious beliefs. Again, this applies to others as well, like vegans who don't give their kids proper nourishment. I don't like that religious views about the world have impeded the progress of science whenever discoveries contrary to established beliefs are made. I don't like that religion is used as an excuse to justify countless atrocities - wars, massacres, and even now people are burned alive for being witches (or the local equivalent) in many parts of the world. I don't like that a person's faith alone is used as a judge of their character; that people will vote for a candidate based on their religious views without knowing anything at all about their actual policies. I don't like that laws are made based on religious beliefs rather than considerations of what is best for the people. I don't like that many religious people flat-out refuse to discuss certain topics because they bring their faith into question; I can't stand this kind of wilful intellectual ignorance. I don't like that just by labelling something a "belief" it can be put in a magical category where reasoning doesn't apply. Last edited by krexia; June 27th, 2009 at 07:27 AM. |

Rep Power: 6 ![]() Level: EXP: | What I don't like is that other religions try to debate against my religion and say that it is wrong. And the main religious folks will call you out of your name and down you, saying that you're supposed to be "christ like", but Christ never downed anyone so technically they aren't being christ like either. Anybody ever seen Friday Night Cranks with Shirley Phelps on Youtube? Prime example. >_> |

| Watch out it's BecPalin! Oh no! | Religion prevents the encouragement of free thought and expression while it usually supports a conservative power structure and a stagnant, isolationalist society. Some religious ideals are good in theory yet could never be implemented in human civilization and I'm pretty sure that a man named Yeshua bar Yosef existed in first century Judea but that he was a socialist by modern standards. |

The bible alone says that no one can follow Jesus if they love their family, a rapist victim has to marry the rapist, kids who disobey their parents should be killed, and that soldier should feel free to take little girls and their mothers as sex slaves. The Koran is even worse. | |

Every time I post the actual verse people always say "That's out of context!" If you think they are out of context please find me the verse before or after the bad one that puts it in context. Oh and none of that interpretation crap. If God wrote it we shouldn't have to interpret it. We would just be able to know it by reading it. Please watch these 2 videos. Rep Power: 8 ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | LoL. If I had a quarter for every time those verses have been thrown at me. That list is quite outrageous. Even people who don't believe in the Bible wouldn't go as far as to say half of the stuff in that list because it is OBVIOUSLY untrue. I'm not going to start a debate in this thread because it will go way off topic but all I have to say is - it's quite easy for anyone to take things out of context, twist, or misinterpret texts. Especially if it will help fuel their fire. Be it the Bible or any other written or spoken words. However, I want to ask you something first. Have you yourself actually gone ahead and read the whole Bible? Or even if not EVERY SINGLE VERSE, at least most of it? I have talked to many people who are against the Bible or do not believe it, at least some of them have read it. I'll say my side of the debate and so on. Most of the time, they keep their opinion and okay, not everyone is going to like it. But if you aren't willing to go the extra step to look into the thing you judge so harshly for yourself then I'd rather not waste an explanation on you. So have you read the books? If not then I suspect you are just taking the list that some Bible haters posted online. Then pointing the finger at those who are religious and saying that they are blindly following someone or something while you yourself are doing the same. | { No Life/No Death } | The guy never said anything about his belief, so saying that he is following something blindly is invalid. Although i will state that this thread is a little redundant because the OP is asking why someone dislikes religion, and then states why he dislikes it as to stir up some kind of hate crowd. Maybe it wasn't his intention, but this thread would have been well put if it was someone religious who made this thread. |
