Ohio Christian school tells student to skip prom

Quote:
FINDLAY, Ohio – A student at a fundamentalist Baptist school that forbids dancing, rock music, hand-holding and kissing will be suspended if he takes his girlfriend to her public high school prom, his principal said.

Despite the warning, 17-year-old Tyler Frost, who has never been to a dance before, said he plans to attend Findlay High School's prom Saturday.

Frost, a senior at Heritage Christian School in northwest Ohio, agreed to the school's rules when he signed a statement of cooperation at the beginning of the year, principal Tim England said.

The teen, who is scheduled to receive his diploma May 24, would be suspended from classes and receive an "incomplete" on remaining assignments, England said. Frost also would not be permitted to attend graduation but would get a diploma once he completes final exams. If Frost is involved with alcohol or sex at the prom, he will be expelled, England said.
I got a pretty good facepalm out of this. :/

Liberty University does this too. As a Christian, I find this kind of stuff absolutely dumb as fuck.

They also fine you if you go to see an R-rated movie, which is hilarious, considering Passion of the Christ is rated R...

While I find those rules extreme, he did sign the school's form that stated that he would adhere to those rules.

Both statements are fabulously true.

Perhaps they could skip the prom and go to the prom in the backseat of his car, if you know what I mean.

At least they get to say that they didn't go to prom because the church told them not to go.

I, on the other hand, am going to say that it was because I had no date.

Not much wrong with prom,
But if I ran a Christian school I would sure as hell recommend my students to not go to prom-after-parties and beachhouses. Full of sex, drinking and drugs (as cliche' as that sounds).

Regardless, this is because it's a Baptist school. And Baptists are messed up. They have all these rigid taboos about dancing and stuff that they say are part of Christianity, when in reality the Bible said David danced with joy for the Lord, and other examples of dance being clearly pleasing to God (if it's not distasteful). My church used to have a Christian dance team that went out and danced for people and shared the gospel.

I think prom is a waste of time and I never went to mine; instead I went to Prom Night. But that is seriously ridiculous. Sure, he agreed to the ruels...but that's so extreme. And how would they know if he got involved in alcohol or sex?

And what's up with the holding hands rules? It's not like it can get you pregnant or give you STDs unless there are open wounds on both parties and one of them contracted and STD elsewhere...

I guess I just don't understand denominations other than my own...

Fundamentalist Christianity in the United States is such a joke.

I knew a post like this was coming. Generalization and grouping is a bad(annoying) thing.

Baptism is only one spectrum of Christianity. I don't want to sound bitchy, but I'm offended by the way you grouped all Christians together like we're all a bunch of prudes that don't know the meaning of the word fun.

Christian Children's Fund. You have to have seen the commercials.

Actual Christian morals are pretty good too. You know, the whole don't murder, steal, lie, adultery, etc.

You have actually but you most likely didn't listen to or basically pretended it doesn't exist.

My parents are Christians, so really...

But anyways...I didn't mean like Christians who are easy going.. only the die hard people... if that makes sense.
