Default Death.

Eventually the last stage of our lives is Death. It's gonna happen to us sometimes, I want a discussion about death because I'm curious to know how other people perceive it as;

how do you guys perceive it?
how long would you guys like to live?
do you live everyday as if it is your last day?
how do you think you're going to die or how would you rather die?
and are you scared of it?
are you afraid [or even believe] of going to heaven or hell?
what do you believe that heaven and hell will be like?
what about the afterlife?
what do you think the afterlife will be like?
If someone very close to you was terminally ill, if they asked you to pull the plug, would you do it?
how about suicide?
what do you think of people who literally want to kill themselves because they see no hope - would you let them do it? or would you try to prevent it?
if you like, share a story of someone close to you has passed.

discuss.

I don't have enough time to answer all of these questions. But I'm a Catholic and I believe whatever they believe in.

I feel the need to post here because apparently my best friend is suicidal, to the point where he was apparently going to go through with it tonight. But I called his guardian's and told them what was going on and he's okay; for now. So obviously, I believe that suicide is stupid as hell and I will do whatever it takes to prevent it.

I can't answer all these questions but I can imagine before someone dies peacefully, all those memories of your past whether good or bad plays within your mind like a movie for that last time. That's how I want to die, in my sleep at age 80

Death is inevitable for all mortal things, and no matter what we do to try and extend our time on Earth, we're still going to pass eventually.
So, since death is inevitable, I don't fear it very much, nor do I think about it very often.

i've found it best not to think about it too much.

since in my finite mind i cannot imagine not being in existence, i've felt that reincarnation or some form of becoming new life (like grass).

a permanent dwelling place is absurd.

Im really comfortable with myself, and with that, I dont fear death at all. Of course when a car is about to hit you, you freeze and get scared. That's natural.

However I am not freaking out if it does happen. We all have some meaning in life. If that means you die early, that is what is meant then.

If someone dear to me wants to perform euthanisia, I will help him/her. In fact, I've had two close family members who chose to, and we all supported their decision. They were in too much pain for too long, and they were ready to die. We are NOT to decide that for them.

1 Corinthians 15:26 puts it well: "the last enemy, death"

When we die, we are conscious of nothing, we feel nothing. It's as if we are in a dreamless deep sleep. We rot in the ground. We do not have a spirit that survives the body, etc. etc.

Should You Fear Death?

Death Can We Understand It?

Quote:
how long would you guys like to live?
Forever, but not in a world where sickness, crime, and heartache are so prevalent.

Quote:
do you live everyday as if it is your last day?
I should, but I really don't.

Quote:
how do you think you're going to die or how would you rather die?
lol I won't say how I think I'm going to die, but as for the second half of the question, I'd rather not die at all.

Quote:
and are you scared of it?
No

Quote:
are you afraid [or even believe] of going to heaven or hell?
I do not believe in going to heaven or hell when I die, thus I do not fear it.

Quote:
what do you believe that heaven and hell will be like?
Well, like I did say, I do not believe in going to heaven, however, I do believe that heaven is a structured organization of spirit creatures in the spirit realm. The many descriptions that are in the Bible pretty much. Not the one's people conjure up of a place where everyone is lazy and floats around on a cloud with milk and honey. No.

Quote:
what about the afterlife?
Don't believe in an "afterlife" but I do believe that humans have the chance of being brought back to life after death.

Quote:
what do you think the afterlife will be like?
Not applicable to me

Quote:
If someone very close to you was terminally ill, if they asked you to pull the plug, would you do it?
It depends on what stage of their illness they are in. If they are in a veggi state, and that was their wish written down, then I'd honor their wishes.

Quote:
how about suicide?
What about it? I don't condone it. Though I have thought about it several times myself.

Quote:
what do you think of people who literally want to kill themselves because they see no hope - would you let them do it? or would you try to prevent it?
If you know how many people I know just like that and have stopped them from ending their lives.... It takes a toll on you.

Quote:

I've had too many friends and family to name who have died, many who were very close to me. Hmm, I'd rather not go into details.

I see death as.... a thing I want to know more about, and as a thing I don't want to experience in my life in any way.

I fear it so much... I just don't know why, but the thought of non-existence feels scary. Because I have no idea what happens after it. I'm trying to think about it as little as possible, but sometimes (usually in my bed, before falling asleep) I just can't help myself, and overthink about it. That is when the fear hits me. I don't want any of my friends or relatives to die, same with myself.

Two of my close relatives have passed away, and their deaths are the only ones I have experienced. In July 2007, my grandad got an heart-attack while sleeping and never woke up again. That was hard for my family and me; I had never gone through a death of a close person before. 8 months later, my uncle died, he too because of an heart-attack. Before that he started to have panic disorders, and was utterly sad about his father's (my grandad) death. He didn't even eat much, and wasn't his usual, happy self. Our family has gotten over all this well, although my granny is still upset and hasn't recovered. It must be hard to lose a husband AND a son in less than a year.

I don't believe in any kind of Heaven or Hell... In my opinion, when you die, nothing happens. Maybe you see dreams for forever, or maybe you just see black. There's also the chance of rebirth as another person or even an animal, but I don't believe in that so much anymore.

This is where I think that so many people get it wrong. I see Life as being totally separate from Death. if one of the most ultimate gifts is LIFE. then its ultimate enemy is Death. it is therefore not a stage of life. I believe that humans really aren't supposed to Die. they are supposed to LIVE. which is why the idea of LIFE and staying alive is so important. if death is my enemy I'm not going to lose

Quote:
how do you guys perceive it?
The release of my spirit from my body.
And the beginning of its journey to heaven

Quote:
how long would you guys like to live?
Till I become 120. (another Biblical promise)

I also have this belief (that is taught in the Bible)
That Jesus will conquer death. Once he does I won't be able to die.

Quote:
do you live everyday as if it is your last day?
NO. I expect to be raptured before I die.
However I get the most out of LIFE as I can.
I really try to LIVE

how do you think you're going to die or how would you rather die?
either really dramatically. or in my sleep

Quote:

NO

I'm not afraid of going to heaven. and I know that's where I'm going

Quote:
what do you believe that heaven and hell will be like?
WEll its heaven. I think most people have a general I idea of what that is

Quote:
what about the afterlife?
it will be in heaven so I guess I get to be with everyone of God's children.

Quote:
what do you think the afterlife will be like?
same as above

Quote:

NO Life is too important.

I've been to the point where I wanted to commit suicide. and I made the decision not to not necessarily becaus eI iddnt' want to die. but because I didn't want to hurt my loved ones.

Fuck yeah. :>

I'm not sure who it was he quoted, but a teacher of mine always told us of some guy who said (roughly translated) "Death: When it's not there yet, you can't influence it. And when it's there, then you don't really care anymore anyway. Not much thought to waste there really."

This actually sounds like a good answer, given you don't believe in an afterlife of some sort. I don't really know what to think about what happens after death, it's hard to come up that really seems logical or realistic to imagine for an average human.
