People take the bible far too literally. It often leads to the same verse having endless definitions, often opposing each other.

Guys, this book was written/created/etc 2,000 years before our time. Many situations in the bible as well as several other holy books are now outdated. Prime example:

Islamic teachings forbade the consumption of pork related products because the pig was an unclean animal. Yes, the pig is still an unclean animal but, with food being processed and cleaned like it is now pork isn't as 'unclean' as it once was.

Development people. Our way of life has changed over the past several thousand years. We use petroleum products instead of lint and papyrus. We don't drink out of the same lake/river we piss in. We clean and process our food before it is bought and consumed. For god sakes our entire way of life has evolved.

Honestly, if you take the bible to a literal translation majority of the worlds population over the span of existence is either:

A) Rotting in hell for not worshipping a god they've never heard of.

B) Writhing in agony for not being married before having children in an age where marriage wasn't common/practised at all.

C) Burning in agony for being born.

D) Frying in the pit for not being able to control an involuntary bodily function.

Circumstance is another largely playing role in these situations.
