Rep Power: 8 ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | No doubt, most people here have either heard of, encountered, or know someone personally that is one of Jehovah's Witnesses. The main thing Jehovah's Witnesses are known for is their public preaching. Mainly door to door. This is a thread, to discuss who Jehovah's Witnesses are, who you think they are and what their beliefs really are. This is not a thread to debate whether or not their doctrines are correct but a thread mainly to clear up any misconceptions or misconceived notions or just to learn more about them. Just a little background - Jehovah's Witnesses are of a modern-day organization that began toward the end of the 19th century with a small group of Bible students near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. These were known as International Bible Students. In 1879 they began publishing the Bible journal now called The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom. Their name Jehovah's Witnesses was adopted in 1931, taken from Isaiah 43 Quote:
Some of their beliefs that differ from many other Christian groups are as follows. To name a few: The WHOLE Bible is God's Word God's name is found in the Bible (english Jehovah) Christ is God's Son and is inferior to Him Christ died on a stake, not a cross We are now in the 'time of the end' Earth will never be destroyed or depopulated The human soul (body) ceases to exist at death Hell is mankind's common grave (no hell fire) Images should not be used in worship They don't believe that all good people go to heaven So if there are any questions that you'd like to ask, about maybe things you've heard or what you might want to know about Jehovah's Witnesses, ask away so that your questions can be answered. Also if you'd like you can visit their websites: Jehovah's Witnesses: Authorized Site of the Office of Public Information Jehovah's Witnesses: Watchtower Society Official Web Site --------------- A few other links that are here and there in the thread about JWs: Jehovah's Witnesses--Who Are They? What Do They Believe? - Jehovah's Witnesses Official Web Site How Jehovah's Witnesses Are Organized - Jehovah's Witnesses Official Web Site (of course as this article was published in 1996 there have been some statistical changes and also a few other changes, however generally the setup is the same) 2008 Report of Jehovah's Witnesses Worldwide Last edited by Forever Atlas; September 9th, 2009 at 04:58 AM.

| Nobody | Yeah they are known for there Door to Door preaching, they use come too my place all the time and we are Seventh day Adventists, and my dad would talk to them and have a bible study with them, but if he wanted to give them a bible study they wouldnt allow it. Im guessing cause there closed into what they believe and dont exactly have an open mind to different opinions. |

Was it ever explained why they did not accept the study?

| Nobody | They said there "higher up" people wouldnt allow it, so im guessing they ment there pastor or preacher or what ever they have in there denomination. We encourage searching for God too and we do it openly, main reason why my dad didnt just turn them away and say were already Seventh Day Adventist and was open to here what they had to say. |

Rep Power: 8 ![]() Level: 32 EXP: | That's strange. That doesn't sound like something JW's would say. The organization isn't set up in a way where anyone is higher than the other. Far from it. Not only that, no one has control over anyone else actions. |

| Nobody | This is in Australia though, so they might think differently over here. Its just like the Seventh Day Adventists over in America are way more conservative then we are within the church. |

Then again, I do know of quite a few experiences where matters weren't exactly handled the way it's suggested. That usually occurs among more inexperienced members. Last edited by Forever Atlas; October 26th, 2008 at 12:01 AM.

Rep Power: 3 ![]() Level: EXP: | We had few JW's as our neigbours. They were no different from other people. Although, I kinda pittied the children, since thw JW's don't celebrate anything else byt Easter, right? They can't go to any Birthdays or any celebrations, and might get out of the group because of that... |
