It isn't really a lie it's just a date that is misinterpreted as being the end.

I don't think it's just the fact that the calendar ends it's more the fact that people think that due to the alignment of the sun,earth etc that the poles will be shifted and chaos will ensue. Only problem is the alignment already happened and the calendar doesn't end it just starts over like a car odometer. This doesn't stop people either since there is something called the "2012 era" which are the years of 1978-2017 (or 1980-2016 as Jean Meeus says) that shit could also happen, so either be paranoid from now until 2018 or just relax.

I don't think it's true. I think it's possible the world will end a day due to a catastrophe or another, but I don't think it's anytime soon...

Even if earth survives as a planet - It'll be barely liveable. We're not even sure if Mars could have sustained life at one point.

I saw a special on Nat Geo about the legend of the crystal skulls and how there real and how there supposed to stop the world from coming to an end if there brought together and how the world is supposed to end on Dec 23, 2013 as it says on the mayan calender but im not so sure of the whole thing.
